Arnold Throckmorton, 84 Retired WWII Veteran Dies June 1 In GA

GEORGIA, June 9 – Arnold J. Throckmorton, 84, of Pleas-ant Valley Rd, husband of Mary Frances G. Throckmorton, entered into rest, Monday, June 1, 2009 at Heartland Hospice.

Mr. Throckmorton was a native of Farmville, and the son of the late Andrew Merit and Callie Reynolds Throckmorton. He retired from the United States Army after twenty-two years of service, serving in World War II. He worked in security with K-Mart for ten years. He was a member of the Hephzibah United Methodist Church, the American Legion and was a Mason.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, John Throckmorton and wife, Jane of Aiken, and Wayne “Chuck” Throckmorton and wife, Linda of Appling; daughter, Susan “Sissy” Smith of Hephzibah; sister, Frances Swalley of Farmville; grandchildren, Kathy, Dee, Traci, Scott, and Amber, and great-grandchildren, Josh, Brooke, Ian, Ainsley, Kassidy, Callie, Chloe Rae, and Aubrey.

Funeral services, with full Military Honors, were held Thursday, June 4, from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, with the Reverend T.G. Hall officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
