Annie Cooper, 88

NEWPORT NEWS, May 12 – Annie Laurie Ligon Cooper, 88, went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 8, 2009. She was born on August 9, 1920 in Cumberland County, the daughter of the late Joseph Anderson and Frances Blanton Ligon.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Caring for her family was her passion and joy. Annie Laurie showed her servant spirit and unselfish love through many offerings of wonderful cakes and meals.

She had been a member of First United Methodist Church, Newport News, for over 45 years. Over the years she taught children's Sunday school, and was a member of United Methodist Women Circle 4, and the Monday Morning Bible Study.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, A.Y. Cooper Jr.; two daughters, Laurie Grecco of Gloucester and Betsy Peters and husband, David of Harrisonburg; sister, Jo Grigg of Suffolk; sister-in-law, Mildred Cooper of Newport News; granddaughters, Sarah Peters of Harrisonburg and Amy Bowman and husband, Todd of Stephens City.

There was a memorial service celebrating her life on Monday at First United Methodist Church in Newport News
