PAMPLIN, April 30 – On Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Southside Community Hospital, Farmville, Mrs. Ann Virginia Pankey passed away at the age of 85. She was born on May 30, 1923 in Surry. Mrs. Pankey received her primary education in Surry, and later resided and completed her secondary education in New York City. Mrs. Ann Virginia Pankey is remembered for her integrity, her honesty, and her work ethics. Mrs. Pankey had faithful testimony that these traits were acquired from her dear grand-mother, Mariah Cooke, whom she fondly remembered when as a young girl she walked daily with Mariah to the humble word appointed to them by the Lord, in the plain expectation that he would send the necessary sunshine to ease the burden of their daily ten mile trip.

She was the devoted wife of the late Deacon John A. Pankey and the loving mother of the late John D. Pankey.
