Alma J. Denby Of Buckingham Dies September 24

SEPTEMBER 25 – Alma Jamerson Denby, born in Buckingham County, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008.

She was the widow of Marshall Robert Denby and daughter of the late Josiah Thomas Jamerson and Dolly Ann Childress Jamerson of Buckingham County.

Mrs. Denby graduated in 1929 from the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton. She was honored by the Virginia Association for the Deaf with an award in 1973 as “Deaf Mother of the Year.”

Survivors include a sister, Dainty Jamerson of Dillwyn; two daughters, Peggie D. Kyser and Beauty D. Crummette; two sons, Teddy O. Denby and Edwin J. Denby; nine grandchildren, Starr K. Palmore, S. Todd Denby, Dawn D. Denby, Page D. Deane, S. Scot Denby, Tamara D. Mann, Timothy D. Kyser, Erin C. Lucero and Melissa K. Denby; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at Scottsville Cemetery with the Rev. Timothy Kyser officiating.

The family requests flowers be omitted. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950.

Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, is serving the family.
