Rev. Vergil Hudson, 89 Formerly of Farmville Dies In Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, April 15 – Reverend Vergil Leon Hudson, 89, of Chesapeake and formerly of Farmville, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 in Chesapeake.

Born in Hickory, NC, June 10, 1920, he was a graduate of Ferrum College and Southern Theological Seminary and served many years in the ministry.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Glenda Marie Pond Hudson; daughter, Lynette Marie Pope and husband, Michael of Chesapeake; son, L. Garrick Hudson and wife, Angela of Farmville; grandchildren, Jessica Pope of Longwood University and Richard Pope of Chesapeake; sister, Evelyn H. Huffman of Hickory, NC; brother, Don Hudson of Rockville, MD; and sister-in-law, Gail Hudson of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Wayland Hudson; his parents, U. L. and Daisy H. Hudson; sister, Clara May Howard; and three brothers, Herman, Grant, and Howard Hudson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 16 in Farmville Baptist Church with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Fri-day at the church.
