Funeral Service Held July 1 For Garland Lipscomb, 70

JULY 1 – Garland H. Lipscomb, 70, of Lower Paxton Township, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Osteopathic Community General Hospital. He retired as a Soil Scientist from the US Department of Agriculture with over 30 years of dedicated service. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Steelton and a life member of Sharon Baptist Church of Farmville.

Mr. Lipscomb served in various organizations, board affiliations and had numerous memberships including: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., past Basileus of Kappa Omega Chapter, Camp Curtain YMCA, The Harrisburg Boy's and Girl's Club, PA Association of Professional Soil Scientist and American Society of Agronomy to name a few. He enjoyed golfing, with several memberships in several golf leagues and was a member of the Central Virginia Negro Baseball League.

He leaves to celebrate his life and memory his devoted wife, Lorraine Lipscomb; two daughters, Shelly Echeverria and Sharon McCauslin all of Harrisburg; siblings, Mary Tuell, Ruth Colbert, Hilda Dean, William Lipscomb and Doris Phillips all of Virginia; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service and burial was held July 1 in the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Cumberland County, Farmville.

Bland-Reid Funeral Home, Farmville, handled local arrangements.
