Funeral Service To Be Held Thursday For Robert Lee Davis, 88

JUNE 22 – Robert Lee Davis, 88, of Farmville, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his residence. He was born June 10, 1922 at Stony Point Mills in Cumberland County. He was the son of the late Nathaniel Lee and Martha Maria Ranson Davis.

Mr. Davis served his country in the U.S. Army during both WWII and the Korean War. He was the husband of Doris Old Davis. He was retired from Craddock Terry Shoe Factory where he was a former plant manager in Farmville. Mr. Davis was instrumental in starting the cafeteria program at Prince Edward Academy, where he also operated the program as head cook for a number of years. He was a member of Farmville Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Old Davis; children, Robert N. “Bobby” Davis (Jane) of Chesapeake and Patricia D. Kidd (Rick) of Gloucester; grandchildren, Joel and Hannah Kidd and Brianna Davis; step-granddaughter, Megan Thurston; several nieces and nephews and his special animal friend, Ginger. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Porter Davis, Kate Blanton and Octavia Fischer.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 22, at Farmville Presbyterian Church with interment in Virginia Veteran's Cemetery in Amelia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Farmville Presbyterian Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, is in charge of arrangements.
