Funeral Service Held Sunday For Hayes R. Whaley, 73

DECEMBER 11 – Hayes R, Whaley, 73, of Farmvllle, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 in Richmond.

He was born January 14, 1930 in Blount County, Tennessee, a son of the late Luther Lee and Martha Isophlne Whaley.

Mr. Whaley was a retired employee of Elllngton Oil Company. He was an elder at Cumberland Presbyterian Church as well as a choir member and served as superintendent of Sunday School. He was a member of the Gideon's and the Parkinson's Support Group. The children and even adults knew him as “The Candy Man”, he loved to give to others; candy was one of the ways he made you smile.

He Is survived by his wife, Shirley C. Whaley; his daughters, Debbie Crenshaw and her husband, Ron of Chesterfield and Janice W. Huddleston and her husband, Lawrence of Farmvllle; his sister, Lavern Ownby and her husband, Clyde of Cumberland and two grandsons, Carson Crenshaw and Cody Huddleston. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

A funeral service was held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with interment in the church cemetery.
