Constance Milligan, 96 Dies In Burkeville On Monday, April 19

BURKEVILLE, April 22 – Constance G. (Grabauskas) Milligan, 96, formerly of Shillington, PA, died on Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Hickory Hills Retirement Community in Burkeville. She was the widow of Amos K. Milligan who died on July 22, 1986. Born in Mahanoy City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Magdalene (Lazuskas) Grabauskas.

She was employed at Beeline Fashions and as an Avon Lady in the Reading, PA area. She retired in 1978. In 1965 she had a long standing Borough ordinance, “The Peddlers Tax” repealed. This bill imposed a tax on door-to-door salespersons. She filed suit against the Borough of Shillington, PA claiming it was unconstitutional, and won. She wrote and published the Waltz “Breath of Spring”. In addition to many lifetime accomplishments, she was a member of Saint Luke's 50 plus group in Shillington, PA; The Knights of Lithuania in Easton, PA; and Saint John Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Shillington, PA.

Surviving are two grandsons, Michael L., husband of Helen R. Milligan of Gladstone, and Patrick J. Milligan of Freemont, CA; and a great-grandchild, Sarah M. Milligan of San Francisco, CA. She was predeceased by a son, Lewis J. Milligan on January 8, 1998.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Friday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at Saint John Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 420 Holland Avenue, Shillington, PA, with Father Richard Clement, Celebrant. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 23, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Shillington, PA.
