APRIL 10 – David B. Robelen,
of Farmville, formerly of Richmond and Yorktown, went to be with his Lord on
Saturday, April 7, 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and
Laura Ellen Robelen; and his first wife, Dianne.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Goodman Robelen, and
sons, John Leslie Robelen of Augusta, GA, Rev. Daniel Ed-ward Robelen of Burgaw,
NC, William David Robelen of Gulf-port, MS, and Rev. Paul Goodman Robelen of
Paris, IL; daughters, Laura Beatrice Robelen and Lillian Opal Robelen, both of
Farmville; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah, Rachel, and Anna Grace; a
sister, Mrs. Susan Robelen Mullins; and a special friend, William C. Conklin of
Williamsburg.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in
the chapel of Nelsen Funeral Home with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight (Tuesday) from
6 to 8 p.m.

Center.
She was the daughter of the late Howard W. Mahaney and
Mary Helen Schriver Mahaney. Her husband of 36 years, William R. Baker, preceded
her in death.
She is survived by sons, William “Bill” Baker, Robert
Howard Baker and Edward Franklin Baker; daughters, Mary Edith Pate, Delma B.
Barron and Diana Lynn DePew; brothers, Carroll Mahaney and Victor Mahaney; 11
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A committal service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at
Spring Creek Baptist Church, Darlington Heights.

82, of Farmville, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007. He was pre-ceded in death by
his wife, Grace Goin Taylor.
He is survived by his daughter, Hilda Taylor Ayers of
Martinsville; his son, Lacy C. Taylor Jr. and wife, Lorna of Martinsville;
several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday at
the Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery.

APRIL 10 – Margaret Stallard
Woolling passed away at her family home, “Woollingsville” in Fluvanna County, on
Friday, April 6, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years,
Richard Roller Woolling.
She was born in Fairfield, Kentucky on January 8, 1918
to Benjamin David and Julia Overall Stallard. The youngest of six children,
Margaret attended Longwood College as had her older sisters. After marrying, she
and Richard made their home and raised ‘their girls’ in Virginia Beach for 60
years. Her career in education took her to Country Day School for Girls and
Norfolk Academy.
She leaves two daughters, Mary Ben Woolling Thomas
(Tim) and Jo Stallard Woolling Hodges (Michael); three grand-children, Joseph
Benjamin Thomas (Donna), Ryan Woolling Thomas and Julia Lawren Hodges Wagner
(Jason) and three great-grandchildren, Ezra Woolling Thomas, Abigail Hope Thomas
and Cassidy Lynn Wagner.
A graveside service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. in
Westview Cemetery, Farmville. The Rev. Warren Johnson of Fork Union Baptist
Church officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia
Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad or Hospice of the Piedmont.

George E. Galloway, 84
Retired Educator
Dies Tuesday
APRIL 5 – George E. Galloway (PopPop),
84, principal, educator and World War II veteran, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at
the Heart and Vascular Institute of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church,
after a short illness.
Mr. Galloway lived with his wife Barbara in Farmville,
since 1992 after relocating from Washington, DC after the death of their
daughter, Claudia G. Logan. They had been married for 58 years at the time of
his death. He loved basketball and attended all the high school and college
games in the Farmville area. He was an avid train buff and loved fishing, golf
and traveling after retiring from the DC Public School System.
A memorial service will be held in Washington, DC at a
later date. The family will welcome friends at their home in Farmville on
Thursday and Friday, April 5 and 6. Condolences may be sent to 5010 Eastern
Avenue, N.E., Washington, DC 20017.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Barbara Galloway;
daughter, Carol G. Hurley of Farmville; five grandchildren, Michael J. Robinson,
Brian A. Logan, Eric C. Hurley, April M. Hurley and Andrea M. Hurley; one
great-grandson, Daryl Lamont Chambers Jr.; two nieces, Darlene Towns Smith and
Jennifer Washington Durham; one nephew, Gregory Washington and a host of other
relatives and friends.

Dies At Age 102
PROSPECT, April 5 – Edna
Midkiff Doss, 102, of Prospect, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
She was born in Pulaski County on March 18, 1905. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Carrington H. Doss.
Mrs. Doss was retired from the Craddock-Terry Shoe
Corporation.
She is survived by a son, Carrington L. Doss of Prospect;
three daughters, Iris Austin and Shirley D. Bucknam both of Prospect and Betty
Rosser of Hampton; a sister, Lillian Holiday of Pulaski and eight
grand-children. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Prospect
United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30
p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville.

BUCKINGHAM, April 5 – Robert
Whorley, 66, of Buckingham, died Monday, April 2, 2007.
He was born April 1, 1941 in Buckingham County, the son
of the late William Whitcomb Whorley Sr. and Susie Lann Whorley. He was preceded
in death by a son, Robert Franklin Whorley.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Spencer Whorley; two
daughters, Elizabeth Ann Whorley and Crystal W. Jamerson both of Buckingham;
three sisters, Frances W. Boley, Louise W. Crews and Sue W. Morgan all of
Buckingham; two brothers, James David Whorley of Buckingham and Charley Edward
Whorley of Dillwyn and a grandson, Zackary Lee Jamerson.
Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m.
at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Buckingham Community
Cemetery.

Obituary

Margaret Price
Koehler
Margaret
Price Koehler, faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
departed this earth for her Heavenly home on Thursday, March 29, 2007.
Margaret was born in 1913 in New York City, daughter of
Matthews and Louise Meyer Price. She lived in Meherrin, Virginia from age 3
until her marriage. Margaret attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg,
Virginia. During WWII, Margaret worked for the US Postal Service as a rural
carrier, replacing her brother, Julian H. Price, while he served in the U.S.
Naval service.
In July 1943, Margaret married Rev. Frank G. Koehler, pastor
of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Hopewell, Virginia. Margaret was an active and
supportive Pastor’s wife during 55 years of her husband’s ministry and remained
a member of Nazareth until her death. In addition to Nazareth in Hopewell, their
ministry included Lutheran congregations in Meherrin, Amelia, Farmville, and
others in Virginia and North Carolina. Margaret was a member of the Lutheran
Women’s Missionary League serving as local, zone, and district officer.
At age 90, she and her husband moved from Hopewell to
Richmond, Virginia, residing together until his death in November 2004. They
were happily married for 61 years.
The Lord blessed them with four daughters: Louise Welch and
husband Lester of Alexandria, VA; Doris Ackerson and husband George of Plano,
TX; Margaret Christensen and husband Clair of Naples, FL; and Frances Koehler of
Richmond, VA. They were also blessed with six grandchildren: Brian Ackerson,
Kevin Ackerson and wife Cindy, Jennifer Shaughnessy and husband Matt, Emily
Christensen, John Christensen, and Katelyn Christensen; and two great
grandchildren: Austin York and Patrick Ackerson. Also surviving are: sister:
Virginia Price Waller of Midlothian, VA; brother-in-law: Edwin Koehler and wife
Leatrice of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in-law: Christine Price of Farmville, VA;
Ellen Koehler of Tucson, AZ; and Lillie Koehler of Houston, TX. Margaret’s last
days were blessed by care from Bon Secours and Medi-Home Health Hospices with
devoted caregivers Marie Gay, Patricia Jones, Tabatha Bartee and Angela Connors.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Matthew Price, Jr.
and Julian H. Price of Meherrin.
The Koehler Family received friends at Nelsen Funeral Home,
214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell, VA. from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday, April 1, 2007.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 am Monday, April 2, 2007 at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church in Meherrin, VA, Free State Road (where she was baptized,
confirmed, met her husband and was married), with Pastor Robert Wind and Pastor
Hilbert Dorn officiating and Pastor George D. Plvan assisting. Interment will
follow in the Price Family Cemetery in Meherrin, VA (located beside Meherrin
Presbyterian Church on Route 360) following the funeral service.

Dies Thursday
CUMBERLAND, April 3 – Robert Garnett
Woodson Sr., 92, of Cumberland, died Thurs-day, March 29, 2007 in Richmond.
He was born March 30, 1914 in Cumberland County, a son of the
late Hendrick de Graffenreidt and Mary Garnett Woodson.
Mr. Woodson was a member of Payne Memorial Methodist Church,
a retired farmer and an avid hunter of turkeys.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hilda Berger Woodson; a son, Robert
Garnett Woodson Jr. and his wife, Laura of Cumberland and two grandchildren,
Laura Elizabeth Woodson and Christopher Scott Garnett Woodson both of
Cumberland. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Gayle Woodson and a
brother, Blake Baker Woodson.
A funeral service was held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Payne Memorial
Methodist Church with interment in Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Payne Memorial Methodist Church
Building Fund or to a charity of your choice.

MARCH 29 – Dorothy Rhodes Putney,
91, of Cumberland and Brookview, Farmville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007.
She is survived by her husband, John M. Putney of Brookview;
a daughter, Alice Putney Metts and husband, Willey of Cumberland; two grandsons,
Bryan and Gail Metts of Fredericksburg and Christopher and Bethanne Metts of
Charlotte Court House.
Mrs. Putney was a school teacher for 33 years and a
librarian.
A memorial service was held 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at
Tarwallet Baptist Church, Cumberland.

MARCH 29 – Bissell Vernon (Buck)
Rogers, 81, of Farmville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Duke University
Medical Center.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania April 3, 1925. He was
the son of the late George Willard Rogers Sr. and Cecilia Helena Schoenberger
Rogers. He grew up in Richmond and attended Richmond Polytechnic Institute. He
continued his banking education with classes at Rutgers University.
Mr. Rogers was a member of Farmville United Methodist Church,
a World War II Navy veteran and a retired banker with Sovran Bank.
“Buck” was an avid golfer and spent much of his retirement
helping his son at B & M Greenhouse.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Rogers of Farmville; a
son Chris Rogers and wife, Jan of Farmville; two daughters, Debbie Taylor and
husband, Mike of Altavista and Suzie Powell and husband, Robert of South Boston;
five grandchildren, Thomas and Joe Rogers of Farmville, Sarah Taylor of
Richmond, Matt Taylor of Altavista and Holt Powell of South Boston.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, South Boston.

Wooldridge Brannan, 81, formerly of Appomattox, died Friday, March 23, 2007 at
Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home in Amherst. She was the wife of the late George
Pritchard Brannan.
Born in Appomattox County, April 16, 1925, she was a daughter
of the late Travis Taylor and Inice Maude Pugh Wooldridge. Virginia was a member
of Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church and was the owner and operator
with her husband of Richwood Store and Service Station.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Valeria B.
and Frank Breault of Dillwyn and Georgie B. and Ken Shufran of Clifford; a
sister, Marvis W. Ferguson of Lynchburg; a granddaughter, Mary Virginia Breault
of Harrisonburg; nieces, Judy Branham and husband, Kenneth of Monroe and Jane Merricks and husband, Edward of Altavista; five great nieces and nephews and a
great-great niece.
Funeral services were held 4 p.m., Sunday, March 25, at
Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Marvin Busie and the Rev. Michael Fitzgerald.
Burial followed in Liberty Cemetery.

and Dorothy Musch. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances.
