MARCH 22 – Mae Dehart Wiggins, 88, formerly
of Hampton, where she lived for 40 years, passed away on Wednesday, March 21,
2007.
She was born May 30, 1918 in Alarka in Swain County, NC to
the late Joseph Paton Dehart and Mary Emily Shepherd Dehart.
Mrs. Wiggins was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie
Franklin Wiggins; two brothers, Lon Patton Dehart and Joseph Edward Dehart and a
sister-in-law, Amy Messer Dehart.
Survivors include two children, Clara Jean W. Alford and
husband, Hoyt and Charles “Bud” Patton Wiggins and wife, Carolyn; two
sisters-in-law, Anna Bell Dehart and Mattie B. Shepherd Dehart; six
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday,
March 25 at Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the
funeral home with interment in Peninsula Memorial Park.

RONALD H. HARDIMAN
DILLWYN, March 22 – Ronald H. Hardiman,
66, of Dillwyn, went home to our Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, after a
lengthy battle with cancer.
He is the son of Mary B. Hardiman and the late Hampton N.
“Pop” Hardiman of Dillwyn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Angela S.
Hardiman; two sons and their wives, Thomas H. and Sherri W. Hardiman of Quinton,
R. Chris and Sandi M. Hardiman of Dillwyn; a daughter and her husband, Sharon H.
and Tony Franklin of Dillwyn; four grand-children Michael Hardiman of Asheville,
NC, Heath Hardiman of Quinton, Victoria and Baxter Franklin of Dillwyn; a
brother, Roger L. Hardiman and his wife, Patsy; a sister, Nancy H. Owen and her
husband, Jim all of Dillwyn; a sister-in-law, Pamela S. Tadlock of Midlothian; a
dear friend, Annie S. Reid and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hardiman was a member of Enon Baptist Church, Dillwyn; a
1959 graduate of Fork Union Military Academy; a co-founder of Heart of Virginia
Fencing, Inc. and a member of Buckingham Masonic Lodge No. 242.
Those of us who called him Daddy and those whom he called
Friend, were truly blessed. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 25 from 6 to
8 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March
31 at Enon Baptist Church, Dillwyn.

Elizabeth Duckwall
Former Resident,
Dies At Age 105
MARCH 22 - Elizabeth Anderson Duckwall, 105, a former school
teacher and Christian educator, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at South Roanoke
Nursing Home in Roanoke.
She was born in Darlington Heights where she began her studies in a
one-room school house. After high school she entered Farmville State Normal
School (now Longwood University) to prepare herself as a teacher, a career she
chose from early youth. Later Mrs. Duckwall graduated from the Assembly's
Training School in Richmond (now Union Theo-logical Seminary/Presbyterian School
of Christian Education). She taught elementary school in Phenix, Darlington
Heights, and Stuart.
In l931 she married Joseph Smith Duckwall, a Presbyterian
(USA) minister, from Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, Mrs. Duckwall was an
active Christian education worker in Presbyterian churches her husband pastored
in Sweet Hall, Hope-well, Winchester, Rural Retreat, Amelia, and Turbeville. In
l972 the couple moved to Farmville where they became active in community and
senior citizens programs and Mrs. Duckwall's childhood church, Bethlehem
Presbyterian Church in Prince Edward County. In l983 they moved to Sunnyside
Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg where Mr. Duck-wall died in
l991. In 2001 Mrs. Duckwall moved to Roanoke to be close to her son and his
family.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Duckwall Campbell,
son-in-law, the Rev. J. Gary Campbell of Silver Spring, Mary-land; a son, Dr.
Francis Joseph Duckwall, daughter-in-law, Sharon Glaize Duckwall of Roanoke;
five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Duckwall is also survived
by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their children who have gathered annually
in Roanoke to celebrate her birthday.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 27, 11 a.m. at
Second Presbyterian Church, 264 Mountain Avenue, Roanoke.

MARCH 22 – Anne Middleton Jones, 86, of Farmville, died
Monday, March 19, 2007.
She was the daughter of the late Frederick Shealy Middleton
Sr. and Helen Coulbourn Middleton. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Paul Dibrell Jones Sr.; a daughter, Annette Royall Jones; a son, Paul Dibrell
Jones Jr.; a grandson, Paul Gregory Jones and her beloved brother, Frederick
Shealy Middleton Jr.
Mrs. Jones was a retired social worker for Prince Edward
Department of Social Services.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Jones Meinhard
(David); granddaughter, Stephanie M. Bappert (Albert); grandson, David E.
Meinhard Jr. (Melissa); daughter-in-law, Kathie L. Jones; grandson, Erik D.
Jones; great-grandson, Devon White and great-granddaughter, Lily Meinhard.
Funeral services will be held at Smyrna United Methodist
Church, Sheppards, at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. at the
church prior to the service.

CHARLOTTE CH, March 22 – Floyd Harvey. 93, of Charlotte Court
House, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007 in Farmville.
He was born December 11, 1913 in Cumberland County, the son
of the late William Glover and Polly Harding Harey.
He is survived by his children, Vernon Harvey and his wife,
Kay of Charlotte Court house and Anita Gimber and her husband, Ted of
Bucking-ham; his sister, Annie Cross of Richmond; his grandchildren, Dennis Lee
Harvey and Eugene Harvey both of Jacksonville, FL, Matthew Wayne Harvey of
Leesburg, Jason Gimber of Rocky Mount, NC and Renee Gimber of Buckingham; ten
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the
Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, with interment in Historyland
Memorial Park, King George.

p.m. at the funeral home.

Trooper Dies March 15
DILLWYN, March 20 - Earl Letcher Thomas,
87, of Dillwyn, died Thursday, March 15, 2007 In a Richmond hospital.
He was born March 5, 1920 in Staunton, the son of the late Howell
Letcher Thomas and Mary Lee Harris Thomas. He was preceded in death by a
brother, Carl E. Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a retired Virginia State Trooper and a World War II
Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Griffin Thomas; two sons,
Michael W. Thomas of Ruther Glen and Montie E. Thomas of Farmville; a sister,
Marie T. Runner of Richmond;
two grandchildren, Bobby Thomas and Michelle T. Brightwell and four
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday at Dunkum Funeral Home,
Dillwyn, with interment in Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Masonic
Rites and Virginia State Police Honors.

ANNE G. MITCHELL
MARCH 20 - Anne Gminder Mitchell,
79, Farmville, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 18, 2007, due to
complications from pneumonia following a lengthy illness.
Born in Washington, DC, June 13, 1927, she was a daughter of
the late Edward Evans Gminder and Ellynor Chadwick Gminder.
Anne attended St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Appomattox, was a Past
President of the Kings Park Chapter of the Virginia Garden Club in Springfield,
and volunteered extensively at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke.
She is survived by a son, Edward R. Mitchell and wife, Linda
Jo of Broken Arrow, OK; two daughters, Lisabeth Anne M. Albitz and husband,
Jerry of Virginia Beach and Carol M. Smith and husband, David of Charleston, WV;
a sister, Jeanne G. Snow of Arlington; her former husband, Robert G. (Bob)
Mitchell of Pamplin; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great
nieces and great nephews.
A private family funeral service will be held this week.

Hensley, 53, of Prospect, passed away Monday, March 19, 2007 at his residence.
He was born May 31, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Ruben and
Donna Hatline Hensley.
He was a member of Farmville Moose Lodge #968.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Kenneth
Hensley of Pamplin, Jennifer Hensley and Stephanie Hensley both of Cumberland;
his brother, Michael Hensley of Farmville; his sisters, Vickie McHenry and
Pattie Newcomb both of Cumberland; five grand-children, Cedrick, Kendasia,
Kenneth, Shelly and Jacob Hensley and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Memorial
Baptist Church Cemetery.

MARCH 20 – Jean S. Maloney passed away,
surrounded by friends and family at the home of her daughter in Severn,
Maryland, Friday. March 16, 2007.
Born in Darlington Heights on September 12, 1926, she was the
youngest daughter of Howard Irving and Gertrude Broaddus Shorter. She was
married for 47 years to F. Guthrie (Gus) Maloney, whom preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, H. I. Shorter and two sisters,
Eleanor Belloff and Mildred Coleman.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Fran and
Roy Hayes of Sugar Grove, Ewa and Rick McCullough of Severn, MD and Judy Lilly
of Arbutus, MD; six grand-children, Reid Hayes, Nikki Griffey, James and Ewa
Lilly, Amanda and Samantha McCullough and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Spring Creek
Baptist Church, Darlington Heights, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev.
James D. Manning officiated.

grandchildren, Ciera Michelle Brandt/Morris and William Austin Brandt/Bappert;
her parents, Fred Fink and Rita Badman Fink of Philadelphia, PA and her
father-in-law and mother-in-law, William E. Brandt Sr. and Patricia A. Brandt of
Farmville.
Mrs. Brandt was an employee of Longwood University.

Frances T. Moore.
She is survived by three sisters, Lelia T. and John T.
Nuckols III of Richmond, Erecelle T. Bersch of Cumberland and Jean K. “Kitty” T.
and David E. “Doc” Boyers of Cumberland; a brother, Henderson I. “Sam” Taylor of
North Carolina; a brother-in-law, James W. Ayers Sr. of Cumberland; ten nephews
and eight nieces.

Church with the Rev. Jeff Mims and the Rev. Kent Wise.

MARCH 15 – Alfred Daniel Wilson died
Tuesday, March 13, 2007.
He was born October 31, 1927 in Windsor, NC, one of 11
children born to the late William Norman and Candie Hoggard Wilson. Fifty-two
years were shared with his loving and devoted wife, Evelyn.
He graduated from W. S. Etheridge High School in North
Carolina, served two years in the United States Military and graduated from
Agricultural & Technical College of North Carolina (A&T).
In 1953, Mr. Wilson began teaching and coaching in
Buckingham. He coached several sports, spent 37 years in the teaching profession
and was called “Coach” by many of his loving students.
He was a member of Fork Union Baptist Church for 49 years.
He is survived by three daughters, Jahala (Tommie) Crump of
Greensboro, NC, Alfred Wilson of Richmond and Danlyn (Spencer) Brown of Garnet
Valley, PA; three grandchildren, Deja and Derek Brown and Micah Crump; an
adopted granddaughter, Brittni Harvey of Greensboro, NC; a god-daughter, Marlene
Lockett of Chesapeake; two brothers, Willie Wilson and Elder Mildren (Lue)
Wilson of Windsor, NC; three sisters, Annie Elizabeth Beard of Richmond, TX,
Martha (Samuel) Owens and Georgia Wells both of Philadelphia, PA; two
brothers-in-law, Warren Walton of Lewiston, NC and Fred Burrell of Beacon, NY;
two sisters-in-law, Josephine Harris of Ayden, NC and Ruth Maceira of Yonkers,
NY and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

County High School with interment in Windsor, NC.

MARCH 15 – Roland Garwood Adcock,
90, of Farmville, formerly of South Boston, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007.
He was born in Oxford, North Carolina, the son of the late
Robert and Nancy Maurry Adcock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola
Grubb Adcock.
Mr. Adcock was an United State Army veteran and pilot in
World War II. He was a member of the Faukner Masonic Lodge of South Boston and
South Boston Baptist Church. He was a retired hospital administrator and federal
employee. He was a kind, soft spoken gentleman. A lover of antiques, he
maintained his home in South Boston.
He is survived by a daughter, Jacquelyne Bush of Buckingham;
a brother, James Adcock of Oxford, North Carolina; a grandson, Mark Bush of
Texas and his special family friends, Curtis and Linda Melvin and children.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Ridge
Cemetery, South Boston.

Minyard, 89, of Dillwyn, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at her home.
She was born April 4, 1917 in Bedford, a daughter of the late
John Robert Jones Jr. and Emma Jones. She was the widow of Raymond Horace
Minyard.
She is survived by a daughter, Tina Marie Tallant of
Blacksburg; a son, Elvin Eugene Minyard of Newport News; eight grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the church
of the Nativity with interment in the church cemetery.

She was born in Pamplin on September 16, 1941, a daughter of
the late Clyde Shelton and Ruby M. Shelton.
She is survived by two sons, Robert P. Witt and Edward O.
Witt both of Chesterfield; one daughter, Annette Renay Bates and her husband,
Roger of Richmond; six sisters, Louella King of North Carolina, Lora Witt of
Goochland, Laura Gladden of Chester, Priscilla Bucknam of Richmond, Cora Katie
Taylor of Dillwyn and Carley Clyde Shelton of Prince George; nine grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren and one aunt, Katie Chandler of Farmville.
