    CHARLOTTE CH, Feb. 20 – Mildred Evans Reynolds, 87, of Charlotte Court house, died Thursday, February 15, 2007. She was the widow of Norvell J. Reynolds.
    Leaving to cherish her memory are six children, John Thomas Reynolds, Jack Wayne Reynolds (Kary), Robert Lester Reynolds (Cheryl) all of Charlotte Court House, Betty Reynolds Scruggs of Richmond, Linda Reynolds Burden (Joseph) of Farmville and Barbara Reynolds Sheffield of Lunenburg; one sister, Marion Nash of Richmond; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    She was a member of Charlotte Court House Methodist Church.

    FEBRUARY 20 – Earl Ray Dandridge, 40, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007 in Roanoke.
    He is survived by his son, Lance Earl Dandridge of Buckingham; his mother, Esther Ogle Bradbury and husband, Gene of New Canton; his father, Snead Dandridge and wife, Barbara of Dillwyn; two brothers, Billy Dandridge and wife, Kim of Gladstone and John Dandridge and wife, Amy of Cumberland; his grandmother, Agnes S. Ogle of Cumberland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip S. Dandridge; maternal grandfather, Ray Ogle and paternal grandparents, Earl and Dorothy Dandridge.
    Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, Cumberland County, with interment in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.

    RICHMOND, Feb. 20 – Lester Francis Edwards, 73, of Richmond, formerly of Farmville and Portsmouth, died Friday, February 16, 2007.
   He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce Wood Edwards; two daughters, Susan E. Williams and her husband, Jeffrey and Leslie Faith Edwards of Farmville; one son, Guy Lester Edwards and his wife, Cheri; two grandsons, Jordan Lester Wood Edwards and Wyatt Warsing Williams of Richmond and a much loved aunt, Margaret E. Rice of Farmville.
    A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 25 at 3 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, Crozier.

Dies Saturday

    POWHATAN, Feb. 20 – Ruby Jamerson Duncan, 78, of Powhatan, died Saturday, February 17, 2007.
    She was the daughter of the late Joseph Frank Jamerson and Mattie Ripley Jamerson and the widow of Lonnie M. Duncan.
    Mrs. Duncan was a retired employee of A. H. Robins with 47 years of service.
    She is survived by two sisters, Florence Verbeke of New Jersey and Louise Drewry of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Emmett Jamerson of North Carolina and Andrew Woody Jamerson of Powhatan. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
    Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Rocky Mount Methodist Church Cemetery.
    The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shirley W. Johns

Dies Thursday

    DILLWYN, Feb. 20 – Shirley W. Johns, of Dillwyn, died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at her home, surrounded by her family and friends.
    She was a lifelong resident of Buckingham County. She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist church, serving as clerk for over 20 years. She also served as president of the Missionary Circle and was a member of the senior choir.
    Mrs. Johns was a retired Federal Government employee, having worked for the Social Security Administration Office in Farmville for the majority of her over 24 years of federal service. After retiring from that agency, she also worked for the Voter Registration Office in Buckingham and the Virginia Employment Commission in Farmville. Prior to her employment with the Federal Government, she was the secretary at Carter G. Woodson High School and a graduate of the Buckingham Training School and attended Saint Paul’s College.
    She was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Farrel D. Johns, who passed away in 1999.
    She is survived by two sons, Bryan Johns and wife, Tammy of Pickerington, Ohio and Andre Johns of Milford, Delaware; two grandchildren, Daniel Johns and Lindsay Johns both of Pickerington, Ohio; a brother, James Harris and wife, Terri of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and many other relatives.
    In 2003, Shirley married Warren Henderson of Cumber-land.
    Funeral services were held at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Scottsville on Monday at 2 p.m. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
    Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church, Scottsville.

    APPOMATTOX, Feb. 15 - Joseph Levi Harris, 80, of Appomattox, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at his home.
    He was born October 12, 1926 in Buckingham County, the son of the late Russell Levi Harris and Frances Chernault Harris.
    He is survived by his wife, Ruby Manis Harris; his children, Bonita H. Smith of Philipsburg, Montana, Karen H. Fowler of Buckingham, Donna H. Weddle of Goodview, Faye H. Bryan of Dillwyn and Joseph Terry Harris of Lowesville; a brother, Peter F. Harris of Appomattox; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Russell Boyd Smith III.

     She was born August 20, 1969 in Farmville, the daughter of Johnny Bollinger and Sandra A. Bollinger.
     She was a long time employee of Wal-Mart in Farmville.
    She is survived by her father, Johnny Bollinger and his wife, Anita and her mother, Sandra A. Bollinger all of Farmville; her children, Anthony Alden Coyle, Nicholas Benjamin Coyle, Michael Douglas Coyle and Jesse Davis Coyle all of Prospect and her stepsister. Angie Reynolds and her stepbrother, Bruce Baldwin.
    A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville.

Maurice Lawhorne
Brother of Farmville
Resident, Dies

    LYNCHBURG, Feb. 13 - Maurice Lawhorne died peacefully at home on Sunday, February 11, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Frances Patterson Lawhorne for 62 years.
    He was born in Lynchburg, April 13, 1922, the son of the late Clarence Wiley Lawhorne and Lula Allen Lawhorne. He grew up in the Fairview community among the people he considered the best anywhere. He was a lifelong and very active member of Fairview United Methodist church, where he and Frances were proud to be charter members of the Challenger Sunday School Class. He served his church in numerous capacities, including Chairman of the Administrative Board for many years.
    Maurice proudly served his country during World War II, flying with the Eighth Air Force over Europe. He flew 32 missions as lead bombardier in B-24s, the 23rd mission on D-Day. He returned to the U.S. in October 1944 to marry his lifelong sweetheart Frances Marian Patterson. In 1955, he and his brother, C. W. started Lawhorne Brothers Asphalt Paving Company. He remained Chairman of the Board and an active part of the business, never retiring from the work to which he was so dedicated.
    In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by three daughters, Linda Lawhorne and husband, David Kiger of Forest, Carolyn Ethridge of Aspen, Colorado and Joan Precious and husband, John of Forest and five grandchildren, Alison Richmond, Chris Richmond, Kelly Richmond, Leigh Ethridge and Drew Precious. He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Ethridge.
    He is also survived by two brothers, C. W. Lawhorne Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Lynchburg and Ronald Lawhorne and his wife, Rita of Farmville and a sister, Barbara Hawkins of Richmond. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Holland and Mildred Morton.
    He taught us all by example and he leaves a legacy of devotion to family, faith, courage, goodwill and outstanding work ethic.
    A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Spring Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 17 in the Lawhorne Fellowship Hall of Fairview United Methodist Church.
    Memorial gifts may be made in his memory to I Care Ministry of Fairview United Methodist Church, The Pearson Cancer Center, c/o Centra Health in Lynchburg, or your favorite charity.

    POQUOSON, Feb. 13 - Marie Everett Roberson, 89, a resident of Bayside Poquoson Nursing Center, died Sunday, February 11,2007.
    A native of Conetoe, North Carolina, she had been a peninsula resident for over 60 years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
    Survivors include two daughters, Mary R. Collins and her husband. Bill of Newport News and Anna R. Jenkins and her husband, Robert of Green Bay; five grandchildren, Cynthia Wilson and her husband, Kevin of Dawsonville, GA, Susan Mullins and her husband, Roy of Gloucester, Bob Jenkins and his wife, Betsy and Mark Jenkins and his wife, Jennie, all of Green Bay and Temple Jenkins of Cartersville, and five great-grandchildren, Ashley Wilson and Kennedy Wilson both of Dawsonville, GA, Gabe Jenkins, Wade Jenkins and Walker Jenkins all of Green Bay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie T. Robertson and a daughter, Carolina W. Roberson.
    Visitation will be Thursday at 12 noon, with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Internment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

    SCOTTSVILLE, Feb. 13 - Eugene Lambden Seay Jr., 87, of Modesto Farm, Scottsville, passed away Thursday, February 8,2007.
    He was born August 26, 1919 at Modesto Farm. Graduated from Virginia Tech in 1942, joined the U. S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Olimsted in the Pacific. After returning to Virginia, he worked as an Agricultural Extension Agent until his retirement in 1974 in Cumberland. He was a 60 year Mason and Ruritan and a member of Scottsville V.F.W. Post #8169.
    He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Helen Vince Seay; his brother, C. Wood Seay and his parents, Eugene L. Seay Sr. and Elvira Wood Seay.
    Survivors include his daughters, Claudia Goin and her husband, George, Carol Owen and her husband, Tom; four grandsons, Eugene Goin, Carl ThielGoin and his wife. Heather, Dan and Jeff Owen and four great-grandchildren.
    A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Saturday at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, with the Reverend Buddy Woodson officiating. Burial followed with Military Honors at Fluvanna Baptist Church Cemetery, Scottsville.

    CHARLOTTE CH, Feb. 13 - Emma Jean Lewis Crews, 71, of Charlotte Court House, died Saturday, February 10, 2007.
    She was born October 7, 1935, a daughter of Jakes Lewis, age 91, of Cullen and the late Carrie Lewis.
    Mrs. Crews was a member of Staunton River Baptist Church for over 40 years.
    In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 53 years, Marshall L. Crews; two sons, Ronnie Crews and wife, Debbie of Farmville and Ricky Crews and wife, Jan of Hickory, NC; two daughters, Janice Noblin and husband, John Henry of Charlotte Court House and Nancy Crews of Drakes Branch; two brothers, Jack Lewis of Cullen and Jerry Lewis of Amelia; two sisters, Earlene Cooper of Buckingham and Athlene Thomas of Farmville; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and her nurse aid of five years whom she loved like her own child, Nancy Newcomb. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Lewis.

    She was born September 8, 1944, a daughter of the late J. B. and Wilda Jones Willis.
    She is survived by her husband, Johnny Asal; her sons, Johnnie Asal Jr. and his wife, Angela of Powhatan, David Mark Asal and his wife, Diane of Cumberland and Stephen Willis Asal and his wife, Jennifer of Cumberland; her daughter. Lisa Asal Seal and her husband, Paul of Powhatan; her brothers, Mickey Willis and his wife, Shirley of Cumberland, Gary Willis and his wife, Trudy of Chester and David Holbrook and his wife, Carol of Bon Air; her sister, Patricia Barnak and her husband, Greg of Cumberland; nine grandchildren, Amanda Asal, David Asal, Jonni Seal, Kristin Asal, Katelyn Seal, Eric Seal, Adam Seal, Logan Asal and Landon Asal and six nieces and nephews.     FEBRUARY 13 - Henry Thomas Weaver, 83, of Farmville, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007.
    He was born in Crewe on January 28, 1924, a son of the late Henry T. Weaver Sr. and Annie Laura Eismon Weaver.
    Mr. Weaver was an U.S. Marine Corp veteran of World War II.
    He is survived by his wife, Doris Weaver of Farmville; four daughters, Sandra Clements and husband, Kenneth of Crewe, Peggy Eagle of Farmville, Julie Gepp and husband, Matthew of Virginia Beach and Donna Smith and husband, Gary of Farmville; a brother. Charles F. Weaver and wife, Helen of Green Bay; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Clements and wife Nikki, Randy Clements and wife, Gwendolyn, Christopher Eagle and Kelly Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Eagle and Luke Clements.
    Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville, with interment with a full military service by the U.S. Marine Corp.

Kenneth Neal Scott, 65

     COLLIERSTOWN, Feb. 13 -Kenneth Neal Scott, 65, died Friday, February 9, 2007 at his home in Collierstown near Lexington.
    A native of Clifton Forge, he was the son of Glenden Armstrong Scott of Lexington and the late Wade Neal Scott.
    He is survived by his wife, Janet; a son, John Neal of Lexington; a brother, Marvin Wade Scott of Farmville; nieces, Kathryn Page Geske of Twin Falls, ID and Anne S. Meehan of Glen Allen.
    He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the University School of Medicine. He Interned at the U. S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, served aboard the U.S.S. John Marshall and completed a residency in Diagnostic Radiology and a Nuclear Medicine Fellowship in Bethesda, MD. He served as Chief of Radiology in Okinawa, Japan and Chief of Nuclear Medicine at Portsmouth Naval Hospital where he retired as Head of Radiology Department in 1987, with the rank of Captain. After a private practice in Norfolk, he retired in 2001 to the Scott ancestral home place in Collierstown, Rockbridge County, where he was an elder in the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, a master gardener, beekeeper and Gideon.
    Services were held at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 11.

Harry W. Yeatts, 87

Dies Tuesday

   FEBRUARY 8 - Harry William Yeatts, 87, of Farmville, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2007.
   He was born in Jetersville (Amelia County) on June 2, 1919, the eighth child of Mary Elizabeth Hamlett Yeatts and Benjamin Coleman Yeatts.
   Mr. Yeatts served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, after which he came to Farmville and began his career as a barber. During his many years as owner of Harry's Barber Shop on Main Street, he made countless friends and acquaintances. He was an integral part of the community and active member of the Farmville United Methodist Church.
   He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Helen Davis Yeatts; two sons, Harry W. Yeatts Jr. and wife, Catherine F. Wingfield-Yeatts of Blacksburg and Michael D. Yeatts and wife, Barbara J. Yeatts of Sandy Hook; four grandchildren, Tabatha Yeatts of Rockville, MD, Heather White of Richmond, Brandon Yeatts of Charleston, SC and Emily Yeatts of Sandy Hook and six great-grandchildren, Ariana, Dashiell and Elena Yeatts-Lonske and Zachary, Keegan and Lottie White.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Farmville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
   The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home.
