RICE,
Dec. 5 - Cecil "Brent" Elliott Jr., 22, of Rice, died Friday morning, December
1, 2006.
He was born October 11, 1984, in Prince Edward County. He was
the son of Cecil Elliott Sr. and the late Ethel Elliott.
Brent worked in the construction business.
In addition to his father he is survived by a sister.
Danlelle Finch and husband, Michael, of Farmville; a brother, Brandon Bradshaw
and wife, Angela, of Raleigh, NC; his half-sister, Sandra Griffin, of Richmond,
and his niece, Larissa Bradshaw, of Raleigh, NC.
A funeral service was held Monday, December 4, at the chapel
of Puckett Funeral Home, with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice.
Puckett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DECEMBER 5 - Shirley Ann Huddleston Call, 66, of Farmville, died Sunday,
December 3,2006.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Call; three
daughters, Debra Guthrie and husband, Barry, of Lynchburg, Sarah Kretowicz
Maddox, of North Carolina, and Milissa Bailey and husband, Bill, of Farmville; a
brother. Henry Cannon, of Spotsylvania; four sisters, Doris Stanley, of
Dumfries, Hilda Marion, of Farmville, Joyce Kile, of Triangle, and Ellen "Joe"
Cosgrove, of Dumfries; and four grandchildren, Brian Dowdy, Graig Guthrie,
Tiffany K. Bergeron, and William Bailey, IV.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at
the Shorter Funeral Home with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
Family will receive friends Tuesday evening (today) from
7-8:30 at the funeral home.

DECEMBER 5 - Phillip L. Thompson Sr., 42, of Farmville, died Thursday, November
30, 2006.
Born January 6, 1964, he was the son of Earl Thompson, of
Farmville and the late Vicie Barnett Thompson.
He is also survived by his wife, Lisa Sue Thompson; a son,
Phillip L. Thompson Jr., of Keysville; and two sisters, Linda Southall, of
Keysville, and Nancy Farrell, of Cumberland.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday afternoon at the

Official, Dies
NOVEMBER 30 -
William James Gills, Jr., 98, of Kill Devil Hills, NC died Wednesday, November
29, 2006 at his home on Avalon Drive.
Mr. Gills was born in Farmville, the son of Dr. William James
Gills, Sr. and May Twitty Paulett Gills.
He retired in 1946 as a Chief Pharmacist Mate with 22 years of
service in the U.S. Navy and having served in WWII. He was a former Treasurer
for the Town of Farmville, served as Commissioner of Revenue for Prince Edward
County, a board member with the Prince Edward School Foundation and a member of
the Farmville Moose Lodge. Mr. Gills was a Past Commander of the American
Legion, Post 32 of Farmville and a member of the Fleet Reserve, Branch 5 of
Norfolk, VA. He was a member of the Outer Banks Senior Fellowship at the Thomas
A. Baum Center, St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, Nags Head and a former
member of John's Memorial Church in Farmville. Mr. Gills was preceded in death
by his wife, Virginia Armstrong Gills.
Mr. Gills is survived by a daughter, Judith Ann Watkins and
husband. Jerry of Chester, VA; two sons, William J. Gills, III and wife, Silvia
of Brooklyn, NY, and Walter A. Gills and wife, Jan of Hanover County, VA; eight
grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held in Westview Cemetery, Farmville,
Virginia on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Charles Gill
officiating.

James Emmanuel Pankey, 73, died Sunday, November 26, 2006 In New York.
He was born in New York, the son of Sally Coleman Panky and
Emmanuel Panky, but spent his early years in Buckingham with his grandparents,
Jim and Sarah Panky. At an early age, he joined the New Store Baptist Church in
Buckingham County.
He was the nephew of Deacon Weldon Pankey of Green Bay.
Funeral services will be held December 2 in Bronx, New York and at
New Store Baptist Church in Buckingham, County on Sunday, December 3 at 2 p.m.

LYNCHBURG, Nov. 28 -Virginia Bishop
Wilkerson, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, November 17, 2006 at the
Summit. She was the wife of the late James Maxey Wilkerson Sr.
Born in Buckingham County, March 26, 1921, she was the
daughter of the late Samuel Winston and Viola Payne Bishop. She loved the Lord
and was always willing to share her faith with everyone. She was an active
member of Centenary United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She loved
children and kept the church's infant nursery as well as provided child care for
numerous children in the home for over 25 years.
One daughter, Barbara Jane Wilkerson and two brothers,
William S. Bishop and Earl P. Bishop preceded her in death.
Survivors include, three sons, James Maxey Wilkerson Jr. and his wife, Robin of
Lynchburg, Donald S. Wilkerson and his wife, Debbie of Clermont, FL and David M.
Wilkerson and his wife. Donna of Goode; three daughters'. Gall W. Saunders and
her husband. Tommy of Lynchburg, Margaret W. Owen and her husband, Mike of
Prospect and Carol W. Olson and her husband, Doug of Bellefonte, PA; five
brothers, Roy R. Bishop, Kenneth R. Bishop and Dean Bishop all of Richmond, K.
Austin Bishop of Arvonia and Melvin F. Bishop of Mechanicsville; four sisters,
Fannie E. Bishop of Farmville, Annie P. Bishop of Richmond, Olene B. Ragland of
Madison Heights and Ruth B. Hoitt of Montpelier and five grandchildren, Daniel
T. Owen and his wife, Kimberly, Joshua C. Owen, Melody H. Owen, Nicholas S.
Olson and Nathaniel J. Olson.
A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday, November 20, at
Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard H. Ecklund officiating.
Interment followed in Spring Hill Cemetery.

NOVEMBER 28 - Nannie (Nancy) Gilliam
Dillon, of Richmond, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Hodges Manor after a
long illness.
A native of Buckingham County, she was born June 6,
1911. She was a 1931 graduate of St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing in
Richmond and worked as a private duty nurse at Mary Washington Hospital in
Fredericksburg during most of her career. She resided in Fredericksburg for over
40 years. She was a lifelong member of Maysville Presbyterian Church in
Buckingham Court House.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie Hooper
Gilliam and William Benjamin Gilliam, her husband. Harry S. Dillon and her two
brothers, Arthur M. Gilliam and William Benjamin Gilliam Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Marion Dillon George
and son-in-law, David P. George of Richmond.
A graveside service was held 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the
Buckingham Community Cemetery.

Harold A. Shadeline
Set 11 A.M. Thursday
NOVEMBER 28 - Harold Andrew
Shadeline, a resident of Farmville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on
Sunday, November 26, 2006.
Mr. Shadeline was born in Endeavor, Pennsylvania. He attended
Franklin Commercial College where he studied accounting.
In 1940 Mr. Shadeline moved to Baltimore, Maryland. He worked
at Franklin Balmar Corporation, a defense plant, from 1940-1970. While in
Baltimore he took management war training courses at The Johns Hopklns
University. He worked at Goodwill Industries as controller from 1970-1980. He
later worked as controller for the Baltimore Metropolitan Opera from 1980-1989.
In 1944 Mr. Shadeline was drafted into the Army and assigned
to the 10th Infantry, 5th Division, Company F. Following a heavy battle in
France, he was captured by the Germans and was a POW in Stalag 7A. He was
liberated by General Patton's Army in April, 1945.
While in Baltimore, he was active in the Arlington
Presbyterian Church and later the Charlestown United Protestant Church. After
moving to Farmville, he enjoyed attending Concord Baptist Church. Mr. Shadeline
was active in the Gideon's International for 40 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Owings and three
grandchildren, Jennifer Owings, Becky Owings and Jon Owings. He will be
remembered for his strong faith in the Lord and his commitment to his family. He
was married to his wife, Audrey, for over 71 years.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Puckett
Funeral Home, Farmville, with interment at 1 p.m. at the Virginia Veteran's
Cemetery in Amelia.
The family will receive friends at the Owings residence, 1204
6th Ave, Farmville, Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.
at the funeral home.

Dorothy E. Bass
RICE, Nov. 16 - Dorothy
"Dot" Bass, 75, of Rice, VA passed away on Wednesday, November 15,
2006 She passed quietly in the comfort of her own home, surrounded
by family and care providers after a long battle with cancer. Born
in Charleston, SC, on August 22, 1931, Dot grew up in Blacksburg,
VA. She attended Queens College, NC and graduated from VPI & SU,
Blacksburg. It was there she met the handsome sailor she later
married and, together, moved to later own and operate Riverview
Dairy Farm in Prince Edward County. Filled with a love for music and
writing, she played and taught piano, as well as wrote and published
a number of poems, many of them contemplating the lingering echoes
of our Civil War. She held the title in her family for being "The
Best Mom and Grandma in the World". She loved the beach and the
sight and sound of the ocean waves.
Dot is survived by her two sons: William Dudley Bass and
fiancé, Kristina Katayama (and her daughter, Talia) of Seattle, WA,
Joe David Bass and wife Sally, of Rice; one daughter: Elizabeth
Carol "Beth" Hinde, and husband Ray, of Rice; two sisters: Marianna
Harvin, and husband Larry of Tennessee, and Nancy Karam, and husband
Al of Texas; five grandchildren: Lydia Bass, Morgan Hannah Bass,
Jessie Bass, Kate Bass and Allison Hinde.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted
husband William "Bill" Bass; and her parents, Hugh and Minnie B.
Ussery of Blacksburg. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday at Sharon Baptist Church in Green Bay, burial following at
Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 -

of Farmville, died Monday, November 20,2006.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Midkiff Scott of Farmvllle; two
sons, Thomas Porter Scott III and Porter Alan Scott both of Farmville; two
daughters, Peggy Scott Barrett of Winston-Salem, NC and Betty S. Duncan of
Rockville; two sisters, Sallie S. Sanderson of Farmville and Elizabeth S. Crump
of Richmond and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers,
one of which was a twin brother, George William Scott and Edwin Walker Scott; a
sister, Frances Scott Ligon and a beloved daughter-in-law, Janet Hix Scott.

Betty
C. Hamilton, of New Canton, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully
left this world for a better place. For those that knew and loved her,
find comfort in remembering the simple things that brought her so much
happiness in life: family and friends, her warm and welcoming home, and
all the glorious wonders of nature that bloom and grow. She was a wife,
mother, sister and friend.
Her passing will make our world a
little darker, but our happy memories of her will light our lives
forever. Betty is survived by her husband, Roy Hamilton; her daughters,
Debby, Patty, and Lisa; her son, David; sisters, Hellen, Linda, and
Kathleen; and grandsons, Mathew and Jeff. She was preceded in death by
brother, Jim.

He was born March 15, 1933 in Cheyney, Pennsylvania, the son
of the late Roy Wolfrey and Bessie M. Wolfrey.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Stetler Wolfrey; his
children, Paul E. Wolfrey Jr. of Pennsylvania, Janet E. Abbene of Orange and
Steve A. Wolfrey of Buckingham; a sister. Catherine Davis of Pennsylvania and
three grandchildren, Lauren Wolfrey, Anna Maria Abbene and Janet B. Abbene.
