DILLWYN, May 9 - Noemi Ortega Mettler, 60,
of Dillwyn, died Monday, May 8, 2006 at her home.
She was born April 15, 1946 in Durango, CO, the daughter of the
late Ross Ortega and Rose A. Ortega.
She is survived by two daughters, Mimi and husband, Darrell Dunkum
of Dillwyn and Margaret Moody of Florida; a son, Lesley Richardson Jr. of
Tennessee; two sisters; three brothers; seven grandchildren arid four
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Concord Baptist
Church with interment In the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
at Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.

Extension Agent, Dies
MAY 9 - Georgia W. Wilkerson, 85, of
Farmville, died Saturday, May 6, 2006 in Farmville.
She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mattie Ogle Watson and
the widow of Charles Leslie Wilkerson.
Mrs. Wilkerson was the Cumberland County Home Demonstration Agent
for many years and hosted a weekly radio program on WFLO.
She is survived by one son, Charles W. Wilkerson of Farmville; two
sisters, Virginia Watson Price and Carolyn W. Yeatts and husband. Homer and two
brothers, Robert E. Watson and wife, Florence and Frank Watson all of Farmville.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Farmville
Baptist Church with interment in Westvlew Cemetery.

Hariklia Fallis, 98
Mother of Former
Resident, Dies
DANVILLE, May 9 - Hariklia J. Fallis, 98,
of Danville, died Saturday, May 6, 2006.
Born in Megalo Xorio, Karpenision, Greece, on October 20, 1907, she
was the daughter of the late Constantine and Maria Kondomerkou. She was the
widow of John D. Fallis, co-owner of the G. S. K. Restaurant of Danville for
many years.
After surviving several revolutions in Greece, Mrs. Fallis and her
family came to Danville in 1947. She was an active and devoted member of Saint
Peter's Greek Orthodox Church, a member of St. Peter's Philoptochos Society and
a lifetime member of the Association of Evrytania.
Mrs. Fallis was recently honored by the Adelfotis Klaufsioton of
America. The members of the association are Greek American who migrated to
America from Mrs. Fallis' area of Greece. The award was given to respect her
compassion, generosity, kindness, faith, longevity and devotion to her native
country.
She is survived by her three daughters and son-in-law, Mary Fallis
Zourzoukis and George T. Zourzouski of Asheville, NC, Frances Fallis Skenderis
of Danville and Androniki John Fallis formerly of Farmville and now of the
residence; four grandsons, John G. Zourzoukis and wife, Susan of Columbus, SC,
Dr. Basil S. Skenderis and wife, Roxanne of Virginia Beach, Constantine G.
Zourzoukis and Demitrios G. Zourzoukis of Asheville, NC and four
great-grandchildren, Anastasia and George Zourzoukis of Columbia, SC and Spiros
and Ella Skenderis of Virginia Beach.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday at Saint Peter's Orthodox
Church by the Reverend Peter Rexinis. Interment followed in Mountain View
Cemetery. A Trisagion Service was held 7 p.m. Sunday at Townes Memorial Chapel
by the Reverend Rexinis.

75, of Abilene, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Percy and Hattie Bowers. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Elwood H. Phillips, a son. Tommy Phillips, a
brother, Alton Bowers and a sister, Charlene Tubbs.
She is survived by a son, Daniel Lee Phillips; daughters, Kathryn
Phillips dark and Sandra Phillips Kennon; sisters, Marguerite Whitlock and Ann
Wingate; grandchildren, Michael Anthony Poff, Lisa Marie Hall and Angela Marie
Phillips and great-grandchildren, Tabatha Hall, David Hall, Brandon Poff and
Lyiah Jackson.

Of Buckingham
Dies Saturday
BUCKINGHAM, May 2 - William P. Versteeg,
83, entered into eternal rest on April 29, 2006.
He was born in Patterson, New Jersey, but was raised in Queens, New
York. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy as Gunners Mate First
Class on the Aircraft Carrier Ranger.
Mr. Versteeg graduated from New York University and was a
controller for several companies. After settling in Northern Virginia, he raised
a family with his wife of 63 years. After retirement he settled in Buckingham.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two sons, Nell of Ponte Vedra,
Florida and Lee of Wood-bridge; three grandchildren, Laura, Molly and Patrick of
Florida and a brother, Joseph of Torrington, Connecticut.

APRIL 27 - Roy Herndon Glass, 94, of
Farmville, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
He was born June 12, 1911, a son of the late Charlie B. and Pearlie
Keesee Glass. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mawyer Glass.
Mr. Glass was a retired carpenter and locksmith for the Hilton
Hotel in Washington, DC. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #290 In
Farmville.
He is survived by two sisters, Pearl Cumbie of Saxe and Dorothy
Holloran of Lynchburg; three brothers, William Glass of Rockville, Maryland,
Walter Alien Glass and wife, Elizabeth and Calvin Glass all of Lynchburg; three
special nieces, Connie Daniel Jenkins of Columbia, South Carolina, Evelyn J.
Glass of Lynchburg and Serry Lynn Hart and husband, John of Orange County;
several nieces, nephews, friends; a special devoted friend, Lindy Hamlett and
wife, Wanda and family.

She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Martin; four children,

and wife, Jane and Cindy Schmidt and husband. Chip; her mother, Lettie Newsom;

James J. Marshall Jr.
Retired Lawyer
Dies October 21
APRIL 27 - James Jones Marshall Jr. died
October 21, 2005 in Bronx, New York.
He was born August 24, 1914 in Jodie, West Virginia, to James J.
and Delia Page Marshall, the youngest of five children.
He was graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1934 and the
University of Virginia law School. His career as a lawyer spanned 41 years with
the Law Firm of White and Case In New York City, where he achieved partnership
and retired as a full partner in 1978. Mr. Marshall served in the United States
Army from November 1941 to January 1946 where he attained the rank of Captain
before his honorable discharge in 1946. He continued to serve in the Army
Reserve from 1946 to 1952.
Mr. Marshall was an avid family historian, collecting and
maintaining many family based historical facts from the time of the
Revolutionary War, Civil War and the World Wars I and II. He was a direct
descendant of John Marshall who was named to the Supreme Court as Chief Justice
in 1801. The Liberty Bell cracked July 8, 1835, tolling the death of Chief
Justice Marshall.
He is survived by nieces, Apphia Page Anderson Schley of Sante Fe,
New Mexico, Lynn Marshall Barnard (Robert) of Timberville and Jo Marshall Cooper
(Timothy) of Washington, DC and nephews, William Wallace Anderson, V (Kerri) of
Bethesda, Maryland, Edwin Randolph Marshall Jr. (Patricia) of Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania and William Peyton Marshall (Linda) of Columbia, Maryland: great
nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Marshall's remains will be Interred in the family plot at a
private service at Westview Cemetery in Farmville, at noon, April 29, with the
service conducted by The Reverend Ed Tracy of Johns Memorial Church.
The family requests that donations in Mr. Marshall's memory be made
to the charity of the donor's choice.

HARRISONBURG, April 25 -Ida Wayne
Southall, a resident at Sunnyside Retirement Community died Sunday, April 23,
2006 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
She was born April 1, 1907 in Charlotte County, a daughter of the
late Edwin D. and Nora Deaner Wayne.
Mrs. Southall graduated from State Teachers College in Farmville
and taught school in Farmville for a year. She attended cosmetology school in
New York City and owned and operated Vanity Beauty Salon in Farmville for 40
years. She also owned and operated beauty salons in Crewe, Blackstone,
Appomattox and South Richmond. She was a member of the Business & Professional
Women in Farmville; Registered Professional Hair Dressers of Virginia; Women of
the Moose; Longwood Golf Club, Willow Oaks Golf Club in Richmond and Briery
Country Club in Keysvllle. She was an avid golfer and had won numerous trophies
and championships.
She was a member of the Massanutten Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband. Acre Southall. She is
survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and
nephews.
Mrs. Southall will be cremated at the Kyger Funeral Home &
Crematory in Harrisonburg. Burial will be held in the Spring Creek Church
Cemetery at a later date.

APRIL 20 - Elizabeth Francis Agee, 93, of
Farmville, died Tuesday. April 18, 2006.
She was born on August 30, 1912, the daughter of the late Charles
Ellis Francis Sr. and Minnie Cash Francis of Bluefield, West Virginia. She was
the widow of Louis N. Agee.
Mrs. Agee was a graduate of Marshall College (now Marshall
University) and taught school in Bluefield, WV and in Farmville.
She is survived by a son, L. Byron Agee and wife, Penrose of
Cumberland; a daughter, Susan A. Riggs and husband, David F. of Williamsburg; a
grandson, Louis Ware Agee of Cumberland; a sister, Rachel F. McMullin and 10
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Maurice R.
Francis, Charles Ellis Francis Jr. and Frederick C. Francis.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. In Westvlew
Cemetery, Farmville.

Walter L. Bailey Sr., age 68, of
Farmville, passed away April 17, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Ervie Bailey
and a brother. Nelson Bailey all of Keysville.
He leaves behind to mourn his loss, his best friend and wife of 47
years, June Lindsey Bailey; two loving sons, W. L. Bailey Jr. of
Madison, NC and Tim Bailey and wife, Sadie of Lynchburg; three
grandchildren, who he loved with all his heart, Sarah Marie Potter
of Rome, GA, Jacob Edward Bailey of Richmond and Elizabeth Grace
(Joe) Bailey of Farmville; one aunt, Ruth Bailey Foutz of Rice; a
loyal friend, Lynn Bailey Goad of Richmond, many cousins, nieces,
nephews and friends.
Walter spent his life in construction, of which he took much pride.
He worked for White's Building and Supply of Keysville and J. E.
Jamerson of Appomattox. He was a charter member of the Charlotte
County Rescue Squad, active for 17 years and coached Little League
Baseball for 15 years. He was a member of Ontario Christian Church.
He was one of "the last of the good oleboys".
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Memorial
Gardens, Rice.

APRIL 18 - Arminus Monroe Evans, 83,
of Farmville, died Monday, April 17, 2006, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Lunenburg County, a son of the late Charles Jackson
Evans and Merle Coley Evans.
He graduated from Victoria High School. After working in the
Newport News Shipyard, he served in the United States Navy with the 9"'
Construction Battalion in Okinawa.
He returned home and operated the family farm. His 48 years career
with Baldwin's Department Store in Farmville began in 1948 where he retired as
manager in 1996. As a member of the Farmville United Methodist Church he served
as co-chairman of the Administrative Board, Sunday School Superintendent and
Trustee. He also served as president of the Farmville Jaycees and the Farmville
Lions Club. He was an advisory Board Member of the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls
Plantation.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Sarah Belle; one
sister, Roberta Buchanan; one son. Jack Evans and his wife, Pam of Appomattox;
two daughters, Sarah Stokes and her husband, Cary of Farmville and Merle Stables
and her husband, Clint of Reedville and seven grandchildren, David Evans and his
wife. Heather, Daniel Evans, Chris Evans, Collin Stokes, Kathryn Stokes, Sarah
Stables and David Stables. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law. Gay B.
Evans.
Mr. Evans was an avid gardener who loved sharing tomatoes, broccoli
and pumpkins from the "Pumpkin Patch" with family, friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville.

STAUNTON, April 18 - Vernon Craig Pack,
formerly of Richmond, 66. died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at his home after a
short illness.
He was born October 29, 1939, in Richmond. He was preceded in death
by his father, Floyd Edward Pack and is survived by his mother, Virginia Elder
Pack, two brothers, Burl Webster Pack and his wife, Caroline of Ruther Glen, and
Edward Lenvel Pack and his wife, Jeanette of Cumberland. Mr. Pack also leaves
behind four children: Howard Craig Pack of Alderson, WV, Stacey Renee Carter and
her husband Lee, of Clarksville, TN, Gary Lance Pack and his wife, Tina of
Staunton, and Debra Dawn Lopez and her husband, Camillo of Harrisonburg, as well
as three grandchildren. Amber Renee Carter of Clarksville, TN, Elexis Meknzi
Crisp of Staunton, and Nathaniel Lee Carter of Clarksville, TN, and two special
friends, Frances F. Cadle of Alderson, WV, and Mary Elizabeth Pack of
Harrisonburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pack proudly served his country as a member of the Army
National Guard. He made his living as a Taxidermist for many years in Virginia,
Texas, and Ohio. He had recently reestablished this practice in his retirement.
Mr. Pack will be remembered by his family and friends for his calm, cool
demeanor, and the epitomy of a true "Virginia Gentleman."
A funeral service was conducted at 1p.m. Saturday in the Mountain
Valley United Methodist Church by the Revs. Lewis G. Martin and Erich Bennett.
Burial followed in the Mountain Valley Cemetery.
