Dies Sunday
BUCKINGHAM, March 14 -Lois Burch
Blackburn, 74, of Buckingham, died Sunday, March 12, 2006.
She was born November 6, 1931 in Richmond, a daughter of Annie
Bland Burch of Dillwyn and the late Everett H. Burch. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Charles Ellett Blackburn and two sons, Bland Blackburn and
Charles E. Blackburn.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Dale L.
Blackburn of Dillwyn; three grandchildren, Melissa B. Powell, Christopher L.
Blackburn and Kathryn M. Blackburn and a great-grandson. Mason L. Blackburn.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dunkum Funeral
Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Buckingham Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 6 to 8
p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Crewe Church of the Nazarene.

BURKEVILLE, March 14 - Eleanor Moon
Clingenpeel, 95, of Burkeville, died Friday, March 10,2006.
She was born January 23, 1911 in the Palmore Inn in Cartersville, a
daughter of the late Mary Eleanor Palmore and Andrew Floyd Moon Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Joel S. Clingenpeel; two
sons, Conrad Moon Clingenpeel and wife, Jean Ann of Dayton, Ohio and Dr. Joel
Floyd Clingenpeel and wife, Mary of Franklin; six grandchildren, Tammy
Caballero, Michael Clingenpeel, Sean Clingenpeel, Heather Clingenpeel, Joel
Martin Clingenpeel and Clarke Floyd Clingenpeel; nine great-grandchildren also
survive.
Mrs. Clingenpeel graduated from Hamilton High School In
Cartersville in 1927 and from Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg in
1931 at age 20 with a degree in math. She taught at Powhatan High School from
1931-1036 and taught fifth grade at Burkeville Elementary from 1948-1973. She
and her husband Joel moved to Burkeville in 1939.
She was a portrait and a still life artist and an avid rose and
flower gardener. She loved to read.
Mrs. Clingenpeel appreciated music and antique heirloom furniture
from the Palmore Inn, much of which she had restored. She was a member of Barker
Memorial Methodist Church, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for over
50 years. She was a talented musician and had a beautiful soprano voice. She
enjoyed detailed needlepoint, embroidery and crossword puzzles. She was a member
of the Book Club, Bridge Club and the Women's Club of Burkeville, She loved and
was loved by all who knew her. In spite of her numerous talents she was very
modest. She was a devoted wife, a caring mother, a dedicated teacher and a dear
friend. Mrs. Clingenpeel had a good life and appreciated it. She took full
advantage of all the opportunities this earthly life has to offer.
Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Hill
Cemetery in Burkeville.
The family requests that donations be made to Wards Chapel United
Methodist Church.
Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home, Crewe, was in charge of

Berry O. LeSueur, 89
DILLWYN, March 14 - Berry Overton LeSueur,
89, of Dillwyn, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in Richmond.
He was born October 13, 1916 in Dillwyn, a son of the late Joshua
Lee and Alice Blanche Dunsford LeSueur.
Mr. LeSueur was a Buck Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War
II and earned a Bronze Star. He retired from the Solite Corporation.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Elizabeth LeSueur;
a son, Carlton "Dick" LeSueur of Dillwyn; two daughters, Doris Anne "Dottie"
LeSueur of Dillwyn and Linda B. Taylor and her husband. Alien of Arvonia; two
grandchildren, Christopher Burton of Richmond and Elizabeth Taylor of Arvonia;
two stepchildren; two great-stepchildren; four sisters, Sarah Lee of Dillwyn,
Pearl Stone of South Hill, Nannie LeSueur of Dillwyn and Ruby Powers of Ashland
and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary
Anne Stone LeSueur, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Baptist Church,
Dillwyn.
Donations may be made to the Buckingham County Rescue Squad, the
Dillwyn Fire Department or Cedar Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mabel C. Morris, 91
Dies Sunday
In Appomattox
APPOMATTOX. March 14 -Mabel Chambers
Morris, 91, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at the Appomattox Health Care Center.
She was the wife of the late Clifton R. Morris Sr.
Born January 18, 1915 in Deatonville, she was a daughter of the
late Fannie Ellen Holly Chambers and Moss Lee Chambers.
Mrs. Morris was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Amelia and a
homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Clifton R. Morris Jr. of Farmville; one
sister, Audrey Worrell of Midlothian and her granddaughter, Rhonda Gayle Lawson
of Meherrin. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Duane Franciscus Morris.
A private memorial graveside service will be held at a later date
in the Wards Chapel Cemetery in Crewe.

Deitrich, 68, of Burkeville, died Monday, March 6, 2006 at his home.
He was born May 16, 1937 in Michigan, a son of the late Frank and
Freda Fisk Deitrich.
Mr. Deitrich was retired from United Airlines as an air freight
agent.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Deitrich; three sons, Gary
Allen Deitrich of Marshall, Donald Duane Deitrich and Alan Robert Deitrich both
of Burkeville; a daughter, Kaye Ellen Demarr of Amosville; seven grandchildren,
Nathan Demarr, Joshua Demarr, Donnie Buechling, Bryce Deitrich, Brennan
Deitrich, Erik Deitrich and Gretchen Deitrich. He was preceded in death by a
sister, Marilyn June Jackson.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Burkeville Baptist
Church with the Reverend Kevin Wirt officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset
Hills Cemetery.

Dies Monday
SAXE, March 9 - Teresa Smith Morgan, 37,
of Saxe, died Monday, March 6, 2006.
She was born April 19, 1968 in Farmville, a daughter of Donald W.
Smith and Lavern Oliver. She was the widow of Lester Morgan.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Morgan; her father and
stepmother, Donald and Barbara Smith; her mother and stepfather, Laverne and
Gene Oliver; stepsister, Johann Greer; half sisters, Amanda Smith and Tracy
Oliver; half brother, Eugene Oliver; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a
special friend, Michael Dickerson.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11a.m. Friday at Trinity
Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 7 to
8:30 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.

Habel, 91, of Burkeville, died Tuesday, March 7,2006.
He is survived by three daughters, Alice Lakes and husband, Richard
of Keswick, Cassie Ann "Tinker" Reich and husband, Charles of Virginia Beach and
Jane Spittle and husband, John of Rockville; five grandchildren; two sisters,
Mildred Inge of Kenbridge and Katherine Habel of Blacksburg and one brother,
Horsley Taylor of Moseley.
CPT Habel served in the U.S. Army in World War II as a member of
the Second Battalion, 128th Infantry, 32nd Division Medical Detachment in the
Pacific Theater. He received the Bronze Star for his heroism. A native of
Jetersville, he graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of
Pharmacy in 1940. He was the founder and owner of Burkeville Drug Store.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Hill
Cemetery, Burkeville.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening
(Thursday) at Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home, Crewe.

Walter Delbert Southall Sr., 81

MARCH 7 - Walter
Delbert Southall Sr., 81, of Farmville, died Sunday, March 5, 2006.
He was born September 25, 1924 in Prospect, a son of the late
Walter Otha Southall and Edna Cook Southall.
Mr. Southall served on the Board of Supervisors for 16 years for
the Farmville and Lockett District. He was former owner and president of
Southall Oil Company and past Grand Master of the State of Virginia for the
International Order of Odd Fellows and a faithful member of the Farmville Lodge
until his death. He was a life member of Farmville Volunteer Fire Department
with 57 years of service, a member of Virginia Farm Bureau and an active cattle
farmer.
He was a graduate of Farmville High School and attended
Hampden-Sydney College. He served in the US Navy in World War II in the Pacific
Theatre. Mr. Southall was a Deacon at Farmville Baptist Church and was former
chairman of the local Selective Service Board. He was past chairman of the
Prince Edward Democratic Party of Prince Edward County.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Shockley Southall; two daughters,
Jayne S. Smith and her husband, Richard of Portsmouth and Susan S. Lawman and
her husband, Robert of Farmville; a son, Delbert Southall Jr. and his wife,
Sarah P. of Farmville and six grandchildren, Mia Peters and husband, Jeff, Dayna
J. Stanley, Clint Smith, Joseph H. Wilck, IV, Elizabeth C. Wilck and Kelly E.
Southall. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Southall August.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Thursday at Farmville Baptist
Church with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8:30
p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.

late Matt Davis and Josephine S. Davis. He was the widower of Elnora W. Davis.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Marr; a stepson, Charles
Haddow-Green; a sister, Ruby D. Walton; grandchildren, Beth Barber, Mark
Haddow-Green, Paul Haddow-Green, Wendy Haddow-Green, Cathy Mladenka, Debbie
Vaughn, John DeVillier and Richard DeVillier; nephews, Winston Walton and John

Gordon Gilbert Ragland, 85, of Wingina, died Thursday, March 2, 2006.
He was born September 12, 1920 in Buckingham County, the son of the late
Herbert Rag-land and Inez Spencer Ragland.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Armstrong Ragland;
three sons, Gordon G. Ragland Jr., Franklin Thomas Ragland and Benjamin Michael
Ragland; a brother. Bill Ragland; six grandchildren, Gordon Ragland, III, Angle
Ragland Baime, Bobbi Jo Frank, Jacki Fezzani, Michelle Ragland and Rachel
Rag-land and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Reed Ragland and George Ragland.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday at Antioch-Union Baptist Church
with interment in the church cemetery.
