      JANUARY 19 -Ada Custer Lancaster, 102, died January 18, 2006 in Farmville.
      Mrs. Lancaster was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen S. Paul. She was preceded in death by two husbands, S.C. Custer of Philadelphia, PA and Ashland, VA, and Thomas L. Lancaster Jr. of Farmville, as well as a daughter, Patricia C. Jackson.
      She is survived by two sons, T. Leitch Lancaster III and his wife, Clare of Richmond, and William J. Lancaster and his wife, Susan of Roanoke; four grandchildren. Thomas L. Lancaster IV of Richmond, Robert B. Lancaster II of Wilmington, NC, Connor L. Fralin and her husband, Robert of Salem, and W. Pierce Lancaster of Roanoke; and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Emily Schroeder of Richmond.
      Mrs. Lancaster retired from Longwood College. She was a member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Longwood Garden Club, and Farmville Presbyterian Church. She dearly loved all her bridge and garden club friends.
      A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, January 21, at 2 p.m. at Westview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Farmville Presbyterian Church.

Resident, Dies

      BURKEVILLE, January 19 -Mary A. Lewis died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at home in Chesterfield County.
      A former resident of Burkeville, she was born August 28, 1918 in Buckingham County, the daughter of the late Willard John Hackney and Ida Frances Scruggs.
      She was the mother of Bill Driver, Harold Driver, Gerald Driver, Ressie Poston, Darline Atkins, Ruby Plourde, Fleta Allen, Debra Jones, Zona Lewis and Audrey Lewis: and was grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
      Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, at Bagby Baptist Church in Burkeville, with interment in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Martha Katherine White

Dies At Age 103

      JANUARY 17 - Martha Katherine "Kate" White, 103, died Tuesday. January 17, 2006 at Brookview Lodge, Farmville.
      Born December 17, 1902 at Gold Hill, Buckingham County, she was the daughter of William Henry White and Elisabeth Palmore White.
      Educated at the College of William and Mary, Miss White first taught in rural schools, including Trents Mill, Fife, Columbia and Dillwyn. She later taught In Loudoun and Fairfax Counties in northern Virginia and retired after 47 years of dedicated service to the public education system of Virginia.
      After selling her ancestral home, Oakdale, in Gold Hill, she moved to Brookview Lodge October 1, 1992. She was the oldest member of Buckingham Baptist Church, whose library she helped create. She served as pianist, Sunday School teacher, WMS member and on several committees.
      She is survived by several cousins.
    Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Buckingham Baptist Church, Gold Hill, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Richard Long will officiate.
      The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Marion both of Cumberland: a daughter, Holly Jean Marion Maxwell of Farmville; seven grandchildren, Deedra Marion of Woodford. Diane Nicole Marion of Farmville, Michael D. Marion Jr. of Cumberland. Susan Marie Marion of Buckingham, Wesley G. Marion Jr. of Cumberland, Hillary Lynn Gilbert and Trey Owen Gilbert both of Farmville; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Marion of Louisa and Hubert Marion of Charlotte County; a sister, Sadie Chumney of Amelia and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Marion of Cumberland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Marion and a sister, Inez Morris.
      Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Shorter Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Trinity Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clarence "Whitey" Davis officiating.

      She is survived by a son, Charles L. Llewellyn and his wife, Thelma of Buckingham; a daughter, Denise L. Leatherwood and her husband, Alan of Dillwyn; two grandsons, Charles Robert Llewellyn and Thomas Edwin Llewellyn both of Buckingham; two granddaughters, Michaela Faith Leatherwood and Olivia Garnet Leatherwood both of Dillwyn; six sisters, Annie Bell McDevitt and Margie Brickey of Richmond, Nellie O'Bryant, Mildred Murphy, June Woodcock and Diane Flippin all of Dillwyn; four brothers. Bill Lewis Moss of Dillwyn, Lindburgh Moss, Bot Moss and Irvin Moss all of Richmond. She was preceded in death by two brothers, T. J. "Jeff Moss and John R. Moss Jr.
      Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Dillwyn with burial at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Buckingham.

      CUMBERLAND, Jan. 17 - Lewis C. Hearn, 60, of Cumberland, died Saturday, January 14,2006.
      He was born in Columbus, Georgia, the son of the late Jason J. and Frances Smith Hearn.
      Mr. Hearn was an U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam. A graduate of Columbus University, he was an insurance sales and consulting agent.
      He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hearn; a daughter, Nhi Aronheim and her husband, Jeff of Denver, Colorado; three sons, Thomas J. Hearn and his wife, Liz of Houston, Texas, Alan W. Hearn of Cumberland and Bryan P. Hearn of Chesapeake; a brother, C. Richard Hearn of Newport Beach, California; two grandchildren. Max Aronheim and Sarah Aronheim of Denver, Colorado; a nephew, Chip Hearn of Atlanta, Georgia; a niece, Laura M. Hearn of Los Angeles, California; an aunt, Elizabeth S. Richards of Atlanta, Georgia and several devoted friends and relatives.
      A memorial service with a flag presentation will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville. Interment will be private at a later date.

      HAMPTON, Jan. 17 - Erminia "Minnie" Louise Beausoleil, 78, a long time resident of Hampton, died Saturday, January 14, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.
      She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years. Major Robert Alton Beausoleil; her three daughters, Caryn Beausoleil Kayton and her husband, Bryan of Farmville, Cheryl Beausoleil Matt and her husband, Brian of Richmond, Caria Ames Beausoleil Smith and her husband, Wesley of Virginia Beach; her son, Christopher Ames Beausoleil and his wife, Lisa of Reston; nine grandchildren, Christopher Robert Kayton, Geoffrey Scott Kayton, Rachel Anne Matt, Christina Marie Matt, Jeremy Beausoleil Smith, Robert Beausoleil Smith, Elizabeth Helen Beausoleil, Anna Louise Beausoleil, Benjamin Robert Beausoleil; her mother, Josephine Savino of Lynn, MA; her sister, Marion Peralta of Lynn, MA and her brother, Anthony Savino of Brunswick, GA. She was preceded in death by her first son, James Anthony Beausoleil and her father, Rocco Savino.
      A Mass of the Resurrection was held 10 a.m. Monday at the Langley AFB Chapel by Father Jim Barlow. The entombment followed in Parklawn Memorial Park.

      MEHERRIN, Jan. 12 - A funeral service for Carolyn Jones Fitzgerald, of Meherrin, was held Friday, December 30, 2005 at Forest Baptist Church, Meherrin, with interment in the church cemetery. Mrs. Fitzgerald died Tuesday, December 27,2005.
      She was born April 14, 1955, a daughter of Floyd and Lorena Jones of Meherrin.
      Mrs. Fitzgerald was employed at Sheldon's Motel and Restaurant.
      In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 13 years, Jesse; one daughter, Brittany Fitzgerald; two sons, Brandon and Michael Fitzgerald; two brothers, Ronald Jones (YuVonne) of Hopewell and Dexter Jones (Rose) of Boydton; three sisters, Earlene Irving, Debbie Jackson (Floyd) and Wendy Jones all of Meherrin; mother-in-law, Evelyn Royster (Jesse) of Meherrin; one brother-in-law, John Fitzgerald (Bridget) of Meherrin; three sisters-in-law, Mary and Marie both of Richmond and Phyllis Stokes (Larry) of Farmville and a host of relatives and friends, two special, Velma Hurt and Linda Smith.

      Mrs. Pugh was a member of Central Baptist Church, retired from Amelia Dress Company and worked for many years for A. J. Skate World.
      She is survived by three children. Deaner of Appomattox, Gladys Carson of Farmville and Vernell Bellon of Baltimore, MD; two brothers. Ray Page of Appomattox and Charlie Page Jr. of Colonial Heights; four grandchildren, Joanie Simpson, Neal Pugh, Markas Pugh and Tansey Binder: four great-grandchildren, Chris Pugh, Slade Simpson, Haley Pugh and Katelyn Pugh and a special caregiver, Louise Thompson.       MIDLOTHIAN, Jan. 10 -Thomas Paul Nixon, of Midlothian, died Friday, January 6, 2006.
      A graduate of Prince Edward Academy and Averett College, he was a former golf professional at the Mill Quarter Plantation, Hermitage and Salisbury Country Clubs. For the past 20 years, he was greatly loved by his numerous clients and co-workers at New York Life and touched the lives of all who knew him.
      He is survived by his parents, Hugh and Willye Nixon: twin brother, Jimmy; brother, Joe and his wife, Bev; sister, Ann Marie Howard and her husband, Jeff; brother. Jerry and his wife, Marty; brother, Bob and his wife, Susan; brother, John R. and his wife, Von; as well as over 100 relatives and his beloved dog, Oliver.

      She was the daughter of the late Charles and Larcie Hicks Weaver and the widow of Benjamin A. Mitchell.
      She is survived by four sons, Benjamin C. Mitchell of Richmond, Paul M. Mitchell of San Diego, CA, Micah S. Mitchell of Emporia and Matthew S. Mitchell of Richmond; two daughters, Jennifer Paige of Buckingham and Regina Altman of Hopewell: brothers, Charles H. Weaver of High Point, NC and James N. Weaver of Stoneville, NC: sister, Virginia A. Reece of High Point, NC; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
