Obituary
of
Edward C. Smith
Ed Smith, 49, passed on
Saturday, August 13, 2005, at home in his kingdom of Mystic Springs after a
brief but tenacious battle with lung cancer. A native of Farmingdale (Monmouth
County), New Jersey, and a former resident of Keysville and Farmville, Virginia,
Ed arrived in North Florida in 1987. Ed was an artist, a writer, a gourmet cook,
and he loved to fish, scallop, and snag stone crabs barehanded. Ed honed his
love of plants and flowers through Lively Technical Center's horticulture
program in the early 1990s and for the remainder of his days he tended to the
plants and yards of those who became his dearest friends. Ed's goal in life was
to be the person his cats thought he was.
Ed will be sorely missed by his life's partner,
Jan Peterson, their kitty family (especially Frodo and Sable) his father Edward
T. Smith, sister Wendy Dee (and husband Dave), and niece Amber Shreves, all of
Spring Creek, and Tom Richards, a great friend and the older brother Ed always
needed, of Tallahassee. Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Kay (Van
Pelt) Smith, and a legion of creatures that sought him out for their care.
To the end, Ed marched through life on his own
terms. In deference to Ed's wishes he will be cremated and there will be no
services. Family and friends will join later in a Thanksgiving celebration of
his life. Please honor and remember Ed in your own individual way. Ed was a
supporter of the Extended Circle Animal Haven and donations in his memory may be
mailed to them at 2898-6 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32308. |
