DILLWYN, May 24 - Reid Pearson Davis, 41, of
Dlllwyn, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at his home.
He was born November 21, 1963 in Charlottesville,
a son of Ivan P. Davis, Sr. and Mollie Pearson Davis of Dillwyn.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two
daughters, Leanna P. Davis and Stephanie L. Davis of Dlllwyn; a sister, Mary
Winston Davis Wise and husband, Edward Wise, Jr. of Dlllwyn; a brother, Ivan P.
Davis, Jr. and wife, Deborah B. of Dillwyn; a niece, Sarah E. M. Davis; three
nephews, Ivan P. Davis, III, Thomas E. Wise and Jefferson D. Wise all of
Dillwyn.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at
Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in the Davis Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening
from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dies Wednesday
CHARLOTTE CH, May 19 -Roy Vance Lewis, Sr., 59,
of Charlotte Court House, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 in Farmville.
He was born January 16, 1946 in Yancey County,
North Carolina, a son of Jake Lewis and the late Carrie Tipton Lewis.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his
wife, Diane Lewis; sons, Preston Keith Lewis, Roy Vance Lewis, Jr. and Daniel
William Lewis and a daughter, Dianna Lorraine Locke all of Charlotte Court
House; eight grandchildren; sisters, Emogene Maude Crews of Charlotte Court
House, Mary Cooper and Athalene Thomas both of Farmville; brothers, Jack Lewis
of Charlotte Court House and Jerry Lewis of Crewe and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10
a.m. in the Prospect Gospel Tabernacle Cemetery.

Bennett H. Baldwin, 90
Of Keysville
Dies Sunday
KEYSVILLE, May 24 - Bennett Holt Baldwin, 90, of
Keysville, died Sunday, May 22, 2005 in Southslde Community Hospital.
Mr. Baldwin and his wife, Kathleen, owned and operated
Baldwin's Market in Keysville for 23 years. He worked for Keysville Mills
(Armstrong World Industries, Inc.) for 10 years and was a retired farmer. He
served on Town Council, was a member of the Lions Club and Keysville United
Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Lona
Price Baldwin, one sister and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen
Wood Baldwin; son, Robert Wood Baldwin, Sr. and his wife, Linda of Keysville;
Betty Sheldon Baldwin; grandchildren, Robert W. Baldwin, Jr., Elizabeth Anne
Baldwin Ereio and her husband, Gregg of Orlando, FL and Kimberly Kay Baldwin
Berglie and her husband, William of Centreville; three great-grandchildren,
Taylor and Sarah Ereio and Rebecca Berglie, Ashley Faye and Emiley Grace
Mitchell and a niece, Betty H. Hamlett of Charlotte Court House.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at
Keysville United Methodist Church with interment in Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

William W. Harriss, 77

MAY 19 - William Wesley Harriss, 77, of
Farmvllle, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005.
Growing up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Mr.
Harriss graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1945. He and both of his two
brothers attended Fort Smith Junior College. After completing one semester, he
entered the Army Air Corps in 1946. Working in Florida in The Climatic Hangar, a
large test facility that recreated climates in many areas of the world, Mr.
Harriss did instrumentation work that helped to make it possible to test
military planes and equipment under any weather conditions. Upon returning home,
the G.I. Bill helped him continue his education, and in 1948, he enrolled in
Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas, graduating In 1951 with a
B.S. in Education.
After teaching a year in Missouri, Mr. Harriss
moved to Detroit, Michigan doing prototype work for the automotive industry. As
such, he worked on prototypes of the original Corvette, the Thunderbird, the
Edsel, and many other special projects and show cars, eventually ending up in
the Chevrolet Division of General Motors Corporation. After 35 years in the
industry, he retired to Farmvllle.
During retirement, he truly made Farmvllle his
home. He generously shared his time, his talents, and his gifts through service
to the Farmvllle United Methodist Church, the Farmvllle Lions Club, Meals on
Wheels, and the local Wesley Foundation. He helped organize the local Habitat
for Humanity organization, serving as vice president, board member, and
construction chairman, on each of the 15 houses built in the area.
He is survived by three nieces, Ann Actkinson and
Kathryn Harriss of Houston, Texas and Kirtley Harriss of Dallas, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at the Farmville
United Methodist Church on Monday, May 23 at 11 a.m.

Humanity or the Farmville United Methodist Church.

CUMBERLAND, May 17 - Robert Paul "Buster" Ingle,
Sr., 70, of Cumberland died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at his residence.
He was born February 8, 1935 in Tennessee, a son
of the late Willie and Ollie Felker Ingle.
Mr. Ingle was owner/operator of Napa Auto Parts
in Cumberland.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Oertel Ingle;
his children, Cindy Ingle Duncan and her husband, Mike of Dillwyn, Robert Paul
Ingle, Jr. and his wife, Teresa, William Kevin Ingle and his wife. Tammy and
Mark Shannon Ingle and his wife, Tracey all of Cumberland; his grandchildren,
James and Amanda Duncan. Lindsey, Bradley, Lauren, Tyier and Ashton Ingle; his
sisters, Elizabeth Moore of Richmond and Margaret Atkinson of Cumberland and his
brother, Jack Ingle of Cumberland.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m.
at the Chapel of Shorter Funeral home, Farmvllle, with interment in Cumberland
Presbyterian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

MAY 19 - Retired Staff Sergeant VanNess Allan
Waterman, 80, of Farmville, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 in Farmville.
He was born April 25, 1925 in Richfield Springs,
New York, a son of the late Allan and Ruth Waterman. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Charlotte Waterman.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Ann Wells of
Farmville; his sons. Randy Waterman of Abilene, Van Lee Waterman of Concord and
Gary Lee Waterman of Scylar Lake, New York; his grandchildren, Ronald Alien
Waterman, Jr. and Kellee Ann Wells.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1
p.m. in Westview Cemetery, Farmville.

James T. Moser, Sr., 81

Dies Sunday
MAY 17 - James Temple Moser, Sr., 81, of
Farmville, died Sunday, May 15, 2005.
Mr. Moser was a United States Air Corp (Air Force)
veteran of World War II, stationed in Norwich, England, serving in the European
Theatre. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He participated in the Battle of
the Bulge and the Normandy Invasion. He retired from the Naval Air Rework
Facilities as a quality control specialist.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gray Moser of
Farmville;two sons, James Temple Moser, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Ruston,
Louisiana and Michael Joseph Moser and wife, Debra of Chesapeake; three
daughters, Laura Jane Woodson and husband, Robert, Jr. of Cumberland, Barbara
Marie Brodt and husband, Michael V. of Chesapeake and Nancy Marie Moser and
Essam Danfora of Raleigh, North Carolina; a brother, John Morgan Moser, III of
Virginia Beach; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday
at Piedmont Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends this evening
(Tuesday) from 7 to 8 p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law,

of Culpeper; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Katie Harding of Keysville, Sara
and Adam Cooper of Culpeper and one sister, Christina Wheeler of Fort Wayne,
Indiana. She was the widow of Billy Duffey and was preceded in death by a
sister, Lorene Morton.

Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

DILLWYN, May 10 - Jessie E. Smith, 73, of
Dlllwyn, died Friday, May 6, 2005.
He was born December 5, 1931, a son of the late
Edward Eugene and Myrtle Wharam Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired employee of the Virginia
Department of Transportation, a Korean Army veteran and a lifetime member of
V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances
Miles Smith; one daughter, Kathy Jamerson and husband, Larry of Dillwyn; four
sons, Bobby E. Smith and wife, Fonda of West Augusta, Donald R. Smith and wife,
Dawn of Dlllwyn, Dennis S. Smith and wife, Renee of Cumberland and Bruce A.
Smith and wife, Kathie of Dillwyn; four brothers, Irvin, Nick, Billy and Paul
Smith all of Buckingham County; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Thomas, Luther and Lester
Smith and a sister, Shirley Midkiff.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday at
Dunkum Funeral Home, Dlllwyn, with interment in Jones Chapel Baptist Church
Cemetery, Cumberland County.

She was born October 12, 1937 In Buckingham
County, the daughter of the late John Edward Moss and Clannie Moss.
She is survived by three sisters, Louise Gunter
and Lois Jamerson both of Dlllwyn and Lorine Martin of Anderson, SC; a brother,
Howard (Stoney) Moss of Dlllwyn and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She
was preceded in death by four brothers, Marshall J. Moss, Edward Lee Moss,
Melvin J. Moss and Alexander Moss.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday at the
Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Dlllwyn Town Cemetery.

Dies Sunday
MAY 10 - John Filmore "Jack" Lewis, Jr., 85, of
Farmville, died Sunday, May 8. 2005. He was the widower of Juanlta Cook Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was a Retired Lieutenant Colonel with
the United States Army and also retired from the Virginia Employment Commission
as the regional manager of the Job Corp. He was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney
College, a Mason with the Farmville Post and a Shriner.
He is survived by a son, Gregory Clayton Lewis
and wife, Jan of Waverly, Tennessee; a sister. Marine Francis; a niece, Shannon
Tate of Waynesboro; two grandsons, John David Westmoreland of Charlotte, NC and
James Filmore Westmoreland of Christiansburg; a granddaughter, Desiree Slagle of
Piano, TX; three great-granddaughters, Ashley Morgan Westmoreland and Christina
Anne Westmoreland both of Christiansburg and Madison Shelby Slagle of Piano, TX.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at
Farmville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Westvlew Cemetery
with full Military Honors from Fort Lee.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening
from 6 to 9 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 6 p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral
Home, Farmville.

of Esther Hensley Whorley of Buckingham and the late Wlllie Burton Whorley.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a
daughter, Jennifer Whorley; a granddaughter, Brooke Whorley of Dillwyn; four
sisters, Linda Moore, Shirley Shumaker, Darlene Whorley and Margaret Estes; two
brothers, Doug Hensley and Wlllie B. Whorley, Jr. all of Buckingham.

He was the son of the late James H. and Elizabeth
S. Bowman.

nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ethel Bryant and
a brother, James Randolph Bowman.

(Thursday) at Jetersville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Wade officiating.
Interment was in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice.
