     BEDFORD, Oct. 14 - Mr. Cline R. King, 93, formerly of Bedford and Roanoke, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, in Marietta, GA. He was the widower of Bettie W. King of Farmville, and a teacher of Bedford County Schools for many years.
     Mr. King was most recently a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church in Roanoke. He had been a longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Bedford where he served on the administrative board, finance committee and was president of the Men's Club.
     Mr. King retired from Sam Moore Furniture Co., Bedford, in 1974 after 28 years of employment at both Christiansburg and Bedford Plants as purchasing agent. He graduated from Emory & Henry College and attended New York University for two summer sessions. He taught school at Christiansburg High School, was employed one year with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., and two years with Hercules Power Co. He then volunteered in the US Navy, in which he served four years as a Lieutenant Senior Grade with duties aboard ship in both the Atlantic and South Pacific theatres of World War II.
     Mr. Cline leaves two brothers, his twin, Clyde W. King of Marietta, GA, and Elbert King of Elizabeth, NJ; two sisters. Pearl Kehoe of Ft. Plantation, FL and Barbara Blount of Woodstock;and several nephews and nieces.

     LYNCHBURG, Oct. 12 -George Fredrick "Ricky" Ziegler, Jr., 50, of 120 Willow Bend Drive, Lynchburg, died Monday, October 11, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving and devoted husband of Patricia Nash Ziegler for 25 years.
     Born December 30, 1953 in Farmville, he was the son of Ruth Perkins Ziegler Carson of Cullen and the late George F. Ziegler, Sr. Ricky was a faithful and dedicated employee of Seven Hills Auto Transporters for more than 15 years.
     In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Meagan Craddock and her husband, Rob and Eric Daniel Ziegler, both of Lynchburg and Jody Lynn Ziegler of Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, NE; one brother, William Ziegler and his wife, Marie of Roanoke; four sisters, Margaret Kirkpatrick and her husband. Cliff of Lynchburg, Norma Kirby and her husband, Earl of Powhatan, Ann Howell and her husband, Frankie of Gretna and Gayle Phelps and her husband, Charles of Richmond, and was a very special "Poppy" to his grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob, and Zachary.
     A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 14, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Carl Weiser.

     PROSPECT, Oct. 12 -A funeral service for Thomas Timothy "Tim" Coleman, 72, of Prospect, was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home. Interment was private at the Coleman family cemetery at Cedar Hill Farm. Mr. Coleman died Friday, October 8, 2004, in Farmville.
     Mr. Coleman was born April 3, 1932, in Prince Edward County, a son of the late Lloyd Morton and Kate Elizabeth Glenn Coleman. He worked as a farmer and a mail carrier. Thomas gave his sister. Iris Ferguson, a kidney 33 years ago; Iris would like to acknowledge this.
     He is survived by his sisters, Janie C. Simpson of Farmville, Rachel C. Phaup of Richmond, Iris C. Ferguson of Farmville, Alice C. Watson of Annapolis, MD, Katrena C. Young of Prospect, and Celia C. Young of Farmville; his brothers, Joel W. Coleman of Wallace, NC, and Frank N. Coleman of Prospect. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Melvin B. and Lloyd G. Coleman.

Vernon Carter Womack, 95
Retired Prince Edward County Official
Died October 7

     OCTOBER 12 - Funeral services for Vernon Carter Womack, 95, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Farmville Presbyterian Church, with interment in Westview Cemetery.
     A retired Prince Edward County elected official for 40 years, Mr. Womack died Thursday, October 7, 2004, in Farmville. He served as Commissioner of the Revenue from 1940-1960, and as Clerk of the Circuit Court of Prince Edward County from 1960 until his retirement in 1980.
     Mr. Womack was born in Prince Edward County, the son of the late Emmett Barksdale and Wilson Louisa Swan Womack on May 1, 1909.
     He graduated from Prospect High School in 1927 at which time he accepted employment with Farmville Grocery Co. until 1940. During World War II, he was a member of Virginia State Guard and commander of Farmville Company with the rank of Captain.
     He was a member and past president of the Virginia Court Clerk's Association, and honorary member and past president of Commissioners of the Revenue Association of Virginia. He was the charter member and past president of Farmville Jaycees, director emeritus and past president and past secretary of Southside Community Hospital Association. Mr. Womack was member of the Rotary Club of Farmville for over 60 years and past president, member and past grand master of the Odd Fellows Lodge, and a member of Farmville Modern Woodman of America.
     He was a past director and past chairman of the Board of Directors of The First National Bank of Farmville. He was a member of Farmville Presbyterian Church where he was a former deacon, elder and trustee.
     He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ella Wilkerson Womack.
     He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Lib" P. Womack of Farmville; two daughters, Pauline Preston W. Spencer and her husband William Miller Spencer of Cary, NC, and Emma Louise W. Petoia and her husband Jean-Baptiste Petoia of St. Petersburg, FL; his brother, Edmund Wilson Womack of Farmville; six grandchildren, Mary Alice Spencer of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Anne Preston Spencer and her husband, John Garfield Fowler of Charleston, SC, George Carter Marsh of Culpeper, Ermanno Matteo Petoia, Pauline Preston Petoia, Marie Gabrielle Petoia all of St. Petersburg, FL; a great-grandson, Garfield Spencer Fowler of Charleston, SC, two step-grandchildren, David Willis Price and Thomas Clifton Price, both of Buckingham County.
     Mr. Womack was known as "A True Virginia Gentleman with ways that showed kindness and gentleness to everyone. Lives will be richer for having known him. A man who served others his entire life."

    OCTOBER 7 - Malvern Olivia "Lollie" Harris Hamilton, 101, of Farmvllle, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at Holly Manor Nursing Home.
    She was born September 22, 1903 in Appomattox County, a daughter of the late Thomas Early and Loula Moore Harris. She was the widow of Joseph Henry Hamilton.
    Mrs. Hamilton was a home-maker and long time resident of Charlotte County and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Madisonville.
    She is survived by three daughters, Corinne H. Moore and her husband, Richard, Phyllis H. Walker and her husband, A. J. and June H. Wilkins and her husband, Curtis all of Farmville; one sister, Louise H. Dillon of Darlington Heights; five granddaughters and six great grandchildren.
    A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Centenary United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

   Born June 9, 1929 in Charlotte County, she was the daughter of Laurence G. Anderson and Valerie E. Anderson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and devoted Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.

Thomas William Bloomfield, 91
Former Farmvllle Town Manager
Died Monday

   SEPTEMBER 21 - Thomas William Bloomfield, 91, former Farmvllle Town Manager, died Monday, September 20, 2004.
   Born in Evansville, Indiana, he was the son of the late William John and Florence Radford Bloomfield. He moved to Farmville with his family in 1918, when his father established W. J. Bloomfield & Son Plumbing and Heating.
   Mr. Bloomfield graduated from Farmville High School In 1933, and attended VPI (Virginia Tech) for two years majoring in mechanical engineering. He was an executive in his father's firm until February 1941 when he joined the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant in the 116th Infantry, 29th Division. He had been a member of the National Guard since 1937.
   When Farmville's Company G was activated, the company was under command of Bloomfield and Lieutenants Carl Dickhoff, Henry Hubbard and Walter Potter, and Captain D. W. Paulette.
   Mr. Bloomfield participated in a number of major engagements in World War II, including Normandy, Northern France, Rhine-land Ardennes and Central Europe. He was discharged in February 1946 as a Lt-Colonel with a bronze star among other citations.
   Following the war he returned to Farmville to operate W. J. Bloomfield & Son until 1961 when he accepted the position as town manager. He retired as town manager January 1, 1978.
   During his tenure as town manager Farmville experienced a period of major growth. Under his conservative guidance the town experienced a major annexation, improvements to water and sewer facilities, including a new water treatment plant, a new airport, major street construction, and expansion of town services.
   He was a member of a number of community organizations and former vestryman of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church.
   He is survived by a son, William Andrew Bloomfield of Asheville, NC; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Bloomfield of Fishersville; a granddaughter and her husband. Charity and Rickey Morton of Lynchburg; two brothers, Brandon Bloomfield and Jason Bloomfield both of Asheville, NC and a great-grandson, Austin Morton of Lynchburg.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church with interment in Westvlew Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmvllle.

   CUMBERLAND, Sept. 21 -Roy Ashley Watson, Sr., 79, of Cumberland, died Monday, September 20, 2004.
   He was born March 22, 1925 in Gatlinburg, TN, a son of the late Ashley Watson and Grace Ownby Watson Bryan. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eula Watson Ownby and a brother, Alien Watson.
   Mr. Watson was a beef and chicken producer. He was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church.

   SEPTEMBER 21 - Daniel Marion Locklair, Jr., 84, of Chester, formerly of Farmvllle, died Saturday, September 18, 2004 in Richmond.
He was born December 17, 1919 in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Daniel M. and Frances Wise Locklair.
   Mr. Locklair served two years In the U.S. Navy during World War II with the rank of Lt. J. G. on the USS Redmour. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years.
   He is survived by his wife, Irene Morton Glasgow Locklair;his sons, Daniel Marion Locklair, III and his wife, Bobbie of Richmond and Terry Neal Locklair and his wife. Dawn of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Marjorie Locklair Carter of Charleston, SC: a niece, Naney Carter Pierce of Charleston, SC; his stepsons, Wayne Glasgow of Richmond and Barrye Glasgow and his wife, Diane of Mechanicsville;
five step grandchildren and one great-step grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Dowdy Locklair.

   Mr. Matney was a retired electrician and coal miner.

  She is survived by a son, Michael Lee Sloan of Cumberland; two daughters, Linda Justice of Cumberland and Teresa Adcock of Clarksville; two sisters, Mae East of Farmville and Jane Chapman of Cumberland County; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
   Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Salem Methodist Church Cemetery, Buckingham.
   The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.

Kyle Jamerson, 73

Dies Monday


BUCKINGHAM, Sept. 14 -Kyle Jamerson, 73, of Buckingham, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at his home.
   He was born March 4, 1931 in Buckingham County, a son of the late Charlie Jamerson and Betty Sharpe Jamerson. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude Jamerson, Bernard Jamerson and Lewis Jamerson and a sister, Doris J. Bray.
   Mr. Jamerson was a retired electrician, a member of Toga Volunteer Fire Department and IBEW and a Korean Marine veteran.
   He is survived by his wife, Louise Watson Jamerson; a son, Anthony Kyle (Tony) Jamerson of Buckingham; two daughters, Sherrie J. Cheryba and husband, Tom of Madison Heights and Cynthia J. Lacy and husband, Steve of Scottsvllle; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
   Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dlllwyn, with interment in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the Toga Volunteer Fire Department or the Buckingham County Rescue Squad.

   She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Holland and a son, William S. Holland.
   She is survived by a grandson, Faron Holland of Dillwyn;
two granddaughters, Roxanne H. Harris of Dillwyn and Deanna H. Staples of Lynchburg; a sister, Barbara Hawkins of Richmond; three brothers, C. W. Lawhorne, Jr. and Maurice Lawhorne both of Lynchburg and Ronnie Lawhorne of Farmville and five great grandchildren.
   Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church with interment in Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg.

   MEHERRIN, Sept. 14 - Ruth M. Fox, 85, of Meherrin, died Friday, September 10, 2004. She was the wife of the late Paul F. Fox, Sr.
   She is survived by a niece, Leslie Ann Pearson of Waters-meet, Michigan; two nephews, Edward D. Kolar of Farmville and Paul M. Kolar of Eldersburg, Maryland; two grandnieces, Sarah Elizabeth Kolar and Jennifer Pearson Stockbridge and a grandnephew, Justin Pearson.
   A private memorial service will be held Thursday.
