   He is survived by two sons, Buddy Meadows and E. Ray Meadows; three daughters, Jean Beazley, Patsy Poyner and Mae Meadows; two brothers. Billy Denton and Walter Denton; four sisters, Louise Baber, Elizabeth Jones, Betty Lou Swan and Deana Morgan; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Ruth Stockner and many friends in Cartersville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura A. Denton and one daughter, Ann Sykes.
   A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bennett & Barden Funeral home, Powhatan, with interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Goochland.

Dies Saturday

   DILLWYN, Sept. 7 - Fannie Gormus Taylor, 79, of Dillwyn, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at her home.
   She was born January 7, 1925 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Wesley Gormus and Julia Wise Waldon Gormus. She was the widow of Herman Taylor.
   She is survived by three daughters, Doris Hall of Dillwyn, Gladys Vaughan of Brookneal and Lucille Taylor of Waynesboro: two sons, Herman Wesley Taylor of Buckingham and William J. (Popeye) Taylor of Dillwyn; a special nephew, Bo Gormus of Dillwyn; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Ramsey and Barbara Taylor.
   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery.
  The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles Huddleston, 74
Farmville Native
Dies in Texas

   MANOR, TX, Sept. 2 - Charles Daniel Huddleston, 74, of Manor, Texas, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 after a long battle with cancer.
   He was born January 21, 1930 In Farmville, a son of the late Thomas T. Huddleston and Mildred Simmons Huddleston. At the time of his death he was a resident of Manor, TX, where he was an active and supportive member of Eternal Faith Baptist Church.
   Mr. Huddleston was a member of the United States Army where he served his country for over 20 years. At the time of his retirement he had served several states, as well as, Korea, Japan, Germany, Hawaii. Puerto Rico and Vietnam. He was awarded numerous honors while in active in the military. He began his career as a member of the 101st airborne division and ended it as a data processing supervisor in Vietnam.
   Following his Military service he moved to Austin, TX where he worked for the State Health Department from 1970 to 1990. He began his career for the state in data processing supervision and retired as a computer programmer.
   He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years. Nancy Huddleston, his brother, Shirley Huddleston and one son, Gary Huddleston.
   He is survived by four children, Iris Marie Nicholson of College Station, TX, Delia Claire Huddleston of Manor, TX, Daniel Keith Huddleston of Round Rock, TX and Shirley Ray Huddleston of Dallas, TX; six siblings, James Huddleston and Thomas Huddleston both of Farmville, Louvenia Corr of Durham, NC, Hazel Olsen of Baltimore, MD, Helen Price and Audrey Wood both of Richmond; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Funeral services were held 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas, with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery.

   STAFFORD, Sept. 2 - Doris Ruth Bowling, 84, of Stafford, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Wilburn Gardens Assisted Living.
   She is survived by one son, George Thomas Randall of Stafford; a brother, Kenneth Kendall; three grandsons, Ranny Randall of Stafford, Thomas Randall and Charles Randall both of King George and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bowling and two brothers, Charles Kendall and Wilder Kendall.

   She was born November 4, 1920 in Farmville, a daughter of the late Stephen Arnes and Amanda Ellie Walden Wilkerson. She was preceded in death by a sister. Hazel Bondourant and a brother, Stephen Wilkerson.
   Mrs. Stanley was a retired shoe factory employee.
   She is survived by her husband, Melvin Gentry Stanley of Richmond where they made their home for a number of years after leaving Farmville; a daughter, Joyce S. Addison; a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin G. Stanley, Jr. and Diane all of Richmond; three sisters, Jessie Alien, Ruby Covington and Katherine Page all of Farmville;three sisters-in-law, Virginia Dileronzo of Monroe, GA, Margaret Carter of Farmville and Anne Berry of Hampden-Sydney; two grandchildren, Shannon P. Jenkins and David A. Peregoy, Jr. both of Richmond.
   Graveside services were held 11 a.m. today (Thursday) in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

   Mr. Davis was the owner of G.M. Davis Trucking and was an Army veteran.
   He is survived by a sister, Louise Davis Schultz of Daleville and two brothers, Clyde J. Davis of Farmville and James K. Davis of Buckingham.

   AUGUST 31 - Sally Falls Whitehead, 82, formerly of Darlington Heights, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 in Virginia Beach.
   She was born July 19, 1922 In Roanoke, a daughter of the late Lewis Allen and Nora Moynihan Falls. She was the widow of Courtney M. Whitehead.
   Mrs. Whitehead was a retired fifth grade teacher at Cape Hatteras School in Buxton, NC.
   She is survived by her children, Mary Kay Whitehead of Virginia, Corky Whitehead and his wife, Maria of Buxton, NC, Hugh Allen Whitehead and his wife, Silvea of Wellsburg, WV, Sara Whitehead Bergloff and her husband, Steve of Pamplin and Lucinda Whitehead of Pamplin;11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Burks Falls.

   AUGUST 31 - Ethel Sims Walker, a retired housekeeper, died Thursday, August 26, 2004 at Bywater Hospital. She was 84 years old.
   Ms. Walker was born in Farmville and was a resident of New Orleans, LA for the past 40 years. Preceding her in death was her son, Clifford James Walker; granddaughter, Tynika Walker; parents, Lindsey and Carrie Sims; sisters, Mable S. Scruggs, Ruby S. Foster, Mary Lee Williams, Lucille Trent and Bertha Sims and brothers, Ralph, Eldridge (twin brother) and William Sims.
   She is survived by three sons, Irvin, Jr., Eldridge, Sr., and Reginald Walker; four daughters, Joyce Walker Henderson, Lynn Walker Benton, Brenda Walker Picard and Pamela Walker Floyd; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Raymond Floyd, James Picard, Charles Stirgus and Byron Benton; daughters-in-law, Olga Jones Walker, Silvia Washington Walker, Lucenda Broussard and Katherine La France and a host of other family and friends.
   Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, New Orleans, LA. Interment followed in Resthaven Cemetery.

   VICTORIA, August 24 - Kclell Malinda Stockton Crute, 84, of Victoria, died on August 23, 2004, in Farmville. She was the widow of William Joseph Crute.
   Mrs. Crute is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dora Crute Chaffin and Wilkie C. Chaffin of Prince Edward County, and Carolyn Crute McLemore and John C. McLemore of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Meg Eastman of Richmond, Elisabeth McLemore of Missoula, MT, and Will McLemore of Austin, TX; a brother, Ronald Stockton of Farmville: a sister, Janice Shelton of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

   CHESTERFIELD, August 24 -Dr. Robert James Woodburn, 75, formerly of Farmville, died Friday, August 20, 2004, at his home in Chesterfield following an extended illness.
   Born in Prince Edward County, he was the son of the late Lewis Eugene Woodburn of Ohio and Ruby Woodburn of Farmville.
   He was preceded in death by his wife. Dr. Mary Stuart Woodburn. He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Woodburn, II, of Midlothian, Texas, and Robert Stuart Woodburn of Richmond; a daughter. Tammy Lee Minnefield of Fort Wayne, IN; four granddaughters; and five great grandchildren.
   Having graduated from Hargrove Military Academy, Dr. Woodburn received his Bachelor of Science degree from Concord College, his Masters in Education degree from Marshall University, and his Doctorate in Education degree from the University of Virginia. He taught in the Department of Speech at Longwood College and retired in 1989. Dr. Woodburn also served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1954.
   He was a long standing member of the Lion's Club and was recently awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Service. Dr. Woodburn was a member of the Farmville United Methodist Church.
   A graveside funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 23, at the Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with the Rev. John Hershman officiating.

   BUCKINGHAM, August 24 -James M. Rice, 49, of Wilmette, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004. He was on a business trip to Philadelphia, PA, when he died unexpectedly of a heart attack.
   Formerly of Buckingham County, Mr. Rice was born November 15, 1954, a son of the late Carolyn Boatwright Rice and Allen Rice.
   He was a graduate of Prince Edward Academy and a 1976 graduate of the University of Virginia, before relocating to the Chicago area.
   He is survived by his wife, Debbie Stearn-Rice of Wilmette, IL, and one daughter, Shana Helton and husband, Donald; two aunts. Nancy B. Moss and husband, J.P. Moss, III, of Buckingham and Martha B. Boatwright of Neptune, FL.

   Mrs. Campbell was an independent Avon Representative for over 30 years. In 1995, the local chapter of the American Business Women's Association, named her "Woman of The Year". She served as president and chairman of several committees and was very active in the ABWA. She worked with the Civil Air Patrol as an information officer and was promoted to State of Virginia Information Officer and was given the rank of captain.
   She is survived by her husband, James Miles Campbell;
three sisters, Betty Tucker of Lynchburg, Emily Allie of Montvale and Janet Mortiner of Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Lisa Campbell of Lawrenceville and John and Lori Campbell of South Hill; brother-in-law and wife, Bobby and Nell Campbell of Chase City; two grandchildren, Chelsia and Justin Campbell: several nieces and nephews.    He was born August 17, 1943 in New Market, Tennessee, a son of Jane B. McHenry of Cumberland and the late Ernest E. McHenry.
   Mr. McHenry retired from Phillip Morris.
   In addition to his mother, he is survived by his devoted daughter, Gwendolyn McHenry Sapp and a devoted son-in-law, Kevin Sapp of Chesterfield County; two grandchildren, Ryan and Corey Sapp and brothers, Charles, Ronald and Phillip McHenry all of Cumberland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary McHenry.
