   JUNE 15 - Gertrude Radkevich, 92, of Oviedo, Florida, died Monday, June 14, 2004.
   She was born May 8, 1912 to Mollie and Jim Payne of Darlington Heights. She was predeceased by her husband of 21 years in 1962, Henry I. Radkevich; her brother, Edward Payne and her sisters. Olive Wilkerson and twin sister, Leona Gibson.
    Mrs. Radkevich was a nurse and graduated from Memorial Hospital in Lynchburg as a Registered Nurse. She was active in her church and was the on call nurse for friends in the community.
   She is survived by her son, Thomas and his wife, Marie and their son, Yui of Altamonte Springs, FL and daughter Ashley of Tallahassee, FL and her sisters, Margaret Greene and Mary Davis of Arlington.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Spring Creek Baptist Church, Darlington Heights.
   The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.

   JUNE 15 - Henry Earl Cassel, Jr., 82, of Cumberland, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 in Keysvllle.
   He was born June 30, 1921 in Norristown, PA, a son of the late Henry Earl and Anna Brown Cassel.
   He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Imogen Cassel; sons, Wayne Cassel and his wife, Charlene of Norristown, PA and Ronald Cassel and his wife, Virginia of Cumberland; daughter, Beverly Yeanish and her husband, John of Collegeville, PA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Cassel.
   A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Riverside Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Brown (Carl) of Cumberland; two Goddaughters, Deborah Travis and Nicole Curry; two aunts; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.

Dies Thursday In NJ

   JUNE 15 - Jenella Monique Moore, 30, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, formerly of Burkeville, died Thursday, June 10, 2004.
   She was born November 28, 1973, a daughter of James C. Moore and Flossie Oliver Moore.
   Miss Moore was a 1991 honor graduate from Prince Edward County High School. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro in 1995 and her Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1997. She completed the requirements for postgraduate certification from George Washington in Washington DC. She was employed as Vice Principal at Friendly High School in Fort Washington, Maryland.
   She was a member of Levi Baptist Church, Green Bay, and attended First Baptist Church in Glen Arden, Maryland.
   In addition to her parents, she is survived by her siblings, Trudy and James Moore, Jr.; "adopted sister". Erica Williams; grandmother, Gertrude Moore Waddell; second set of parents, Cora and Clarence Robinson; great-aunts, Louise Stevens, Laura Stith, Lorraine King and Hazel Williams; great-uncle, Harris Moore; aunts, Helen Pierce and Annette Cluff; uncles, Oakerlee Oliver and Alton Moore; Godchildren, Camen Anderson, Brittany Branch, Jordan Gillette and Carlton Reed, Jr.; Godparents, Mae and Willie Tucker and many other relatives and friends.
   A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Levi Baptist Church with interment in the Fears Family Cemetery, Burkeville.

   POWHATAN COUNTY, June 15 - Curtis Wilkerson Wilburn, 78, of Trenholm in Powhatan County, died Friday, June 11, 2004.
   Born May 1, 1926 in Powhatan, he was the son of the late Emmett Julian and Alma Blanche Wilburn.
  Mr. Wilburn retired from Frank Notts Scrap Yard in Richmond. He was an accomplished trapper and a member of Muddy Creek Baptist Church, Powhatan Moose Lodge 1840 and Virginia Trappers Association. He was an avid sports enthusiast of Powhatan High School and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
   He is survived by one son and his wife, Danny and Shalee Wilburn of Franklin, WV; one daughter and her husband, Janice and Greg Budnik of Springfield; three grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Claiborne Wilburn.
   Funeral services were held ,1 p.m. Monday at Muddy Creek Baptist Church, Trenholm, with the Rev. Leonard Vimpeny and the Rev. David Fisher officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

   NEW CANTON, June 8 -Charles Richard Joseph, 80, of New Canton, Buckingham, died on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at his residence.
   Born December 21, 1923 In Charlottesville he was the son of the late Charles Richard Joseph and Fannie Brown Joseph.
   Having owned and operated Allied Exterminating Company from 1972 until 1989, he had also been a police officer in Richmond, and had attended one year at the T. C. Williams Law School in Richmond. He had also served in the Army Air Corps, US Army, 29th. Inf. Div., 1505 AAF, 504th. Prch. Inf. Reg. Reserve from 1941 - 1955.
   He is survived by his wife, Margaret McDonald Joseph, of Buckingham; two daughters, Linda Adel Joseph Walton of Charlottesville, and Karen Leigh Joseph Barton of Faber; four sons, Charles Richard Joseph of Red Hill, SC, Carl Wade Joseph of Keswick, John Mark Joseph of Richmond, and Leonard Clay Joseph of Eden, NC; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
   A graveside funeral service was held at 1a.m. today (Tuesday) in Holly Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Sidney Craig officiating.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckingham Baptist Church, Route 15 South, Arvonia.

   LYNCHBURG, June 3 - Herbert Ray Greene, 72, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004. He was the husband of Eulalia Glover Greene for 53 years.
   Mr. Greene was born June 25, 1931, In Tennessee, a son of the late Robert Lee Greene and Mary Lucille Finchum Greene.
   Mr. Greene was retired from G. E./Ericsson with 26 years of service. He was a member of the Lynchburg Church of God.
   In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Joe Greene of Lynchburg, and Paul Greene of Farmvllle; a sister, Connie Haak of San Mateo, FL; a special aunt, Helen Finchum of Farmvllle; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Greene and Glenn Greene.
   A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Joe Wilkins officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

   JUNE 3 - Suella Emert Serafin, 87, died Thursday, May 27, 2004 in Suffolk.
   Mrs. Serafin was a member of Alexander Baptist Church in Portsmouth and a retired teacher from Beulah Elementary School, Chesterfield.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Rufus Emert and Myra Sutton Emert of Dillwyn; her husband, Francis Joseph Serafin and her brothers, Clarence Hugh Emert, Rufus Glen Emert and Roy Andrew Emert, Sr.
   She is survived by her daughter, Betty Serafin Evans and son-in-law. Henry Earl Evans of Chesapeake; two granddaughters, Stefanie Frances Evans of Chesapeake and Elizabeth Rene Evans of Raleigh, NC; a brother, the Reverend John Merle Emert of Inwood, WV and a sister, Maxine Emert Senger-Morgan of Richmond.
   Funeral services were held May 31 at Sturtevant Memorial Funeral Home, Portsmouth. A graveside service was held June 1 In Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield.

   JUNE 3 - Lucille Banks Johnson, 73, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in Charlottesville.
   She was born March 7, 1931 In Louisa County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys Ragland Banks. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wingfield Johnson, a son, Carl Edward Johnson, one sister and two brothers.
    She is survived by two sons, William and his wife, Betty and Cedric and his wife Christine both of Louisa; an adopted son, Marcus Brown of Louisa; three foster sons, John E. Johnson and his wife, Leona, James Christmas and his wife, Tracey all of Louisa and Randal John-son of Charlottesville; three daughters. Pastor Dorothy Christmas of Farmville, Gladys and Maria Johnson both of Louisa; one adopted daughter, Earline Fortune of Louisa; one sister, Annette Hughes and her husband, Robert of Louisa; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two devoted nieces, Carolyn Mealy and Lucille Johnson of Louisa; one devoted nephew, George John-son; two spiritual sons, Robert Ellis, II and Deacon Russell Wright; one special friend, Lottie McCalvin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
   Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 23 at Evergreen Bibleway Church, Louisa. Interment was In the Johnson Family Cemetery.

Dies Monday

   CHESAPEAKE, June 1 Perry Lloyd Wells, 80, of Chesapeake, died Monday, May 31, 2004 in his home.
   Born in Rolla, Missouri, he was the son of the late Emmitt Wells and Gyndlyn Dalripple Wells and was predeceased by a son, Howard Wells, Sr.
   Mr. Wells retired after 23 years from the United States Navy where he was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He later retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he was an electrician.
   He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruth Kathrine Wells of Chesapeake; one son, Wallace Bare Wells and wife, Linda of Brunswick, GA; three daughters, Kathy Heines of Chesapeake, Ann McKinney and husband, Daniel of Chesapeake and Wanda Kean and husband, Thomas of Virginia Beach; 16 grandchildren, Diana, Wallace, Jr., Phyllis, Kelly, Howard, Jr., Vicki, Michael, Jennifer, Leslie, Debbie, Sean, Bernie, Lisa, Kimberly, Kenneth and Eric; 25 great-grandchildren and one brother, Maurice Wells of Granite City, IL.
   The funeral service will be conducted with full military honors at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake. The Rev. Rick Caldwell will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
   The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
