0bituary
of
Penny Ingersoll

Penny Ingersoll, a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 in Maryland. She was preceded in death by both her husbands and her granddaughter, Denise Mounce.
Mother was born in Finland in October, 1913, and in 1916, came through Ellis Island with her mother to join her father in America. Years later mother married our father and together, they owned and operated a pet shop in Florida. When that was sold, they motored from state to state, job to job in a 1936 Packard. Mother learned to make sandwiches in her lap and was always ready, paring knife close by, to feed us as we traveled along. In 1947, she was left a widow with three young girls. Several years later she became enamored of Clyde Ingersoll, "Sarge", whom she married. When he retired they left Florida and set up housekeeping on a small farm in Cumberland, Virginia.
Mother worshiped by using her given talents for others: a proficient seamstress, a skilled upholsterer, a joyful pianist, and a faithful Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed classical music, doted on each dog that made its way into her open arms and welcomed folks into her home and heart with a friendly smile.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Trent's Mill Homemakers Club and the Robert Morris Chapter #150, Order of Eastern Star, Farmville, Virginia, to which she was devoted. She was a past matron of the chapter, serving from 1985 through 1986. Over her life, mother worked as a postal employee, a nurse's aide, a hospital admissions clerk and a salesperson.

Left to remember her are her daughters and sons-in-law:
Patricia and Richard Mounce, of Cumberland County, Penny and Robert Stansbury, of Florida, Joanne and Richard Muise, of Maryland; her grandchildren Dale Mounce, Douglas Mounce, Diane Mounce Wood, Christine Wireman, James Osborne, Rebecca Landsberg, Pam Stansbury Leake, Bruce Stansbury; her great-grandchildren Amanda and Emily Mounce, Sarah and Rachel Wireman, Anna Grace Osborne, Claire and Clarence Leake, Noah and Megan Stansbury, other family members and many caring friends.
The service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 24th, at Jones Chapel Baptist Church (the Rock Church), Trent's Mill Road, Cumberland, Virginia. Following the service, mother will be interred alongside her beloved Sarge in the church cemetery.
Having been an avid reader, mother would be pleased to have memorial contributions made to the Cumberland County Public Library.
