Buckingham, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at his home.
He was born July 1, 1941 in Buckingham County, a son of the
late Alfred Lee Shumaker and Maggie Goin Shumaker.
He is survived by a devoted friend, Doris S. Hall; four

four sisters, Ada Taylor, Ethel Taylor, Carrie Taylor and Maggie Marie

Sunday, November 2, 2003 in Keysville.
He was born September 5, 1924 in Hickory, North Carolina, a
son of the late Ulus and Daisey Hilderban Hudson.
He is survived by a daughter, Ginger Hudson Guthrie of
Cumberland; his brothers, Don Hudson of Silver Spring, MD, and the Rev.
Virgil Hudson of Farmville; his sisters, Clara Mae Howard of Richmond and
Evelyn Huffman of Hickory, NC. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

At Age 100
NOVEMBER 6 - Gussie White Bailey,
100, of Farmville, formerly of Drakes Branch, died Wednesday, November 5,
2003.
She was born August 3, 1903 in Amelia County, a
daughter of the late Ashley P. and Lucy Rowlett White. She was the widow of
Earl P. Bailey, Sr.
Mrs. Bailey had been a resident of Brookview Lodge and
Holly Manor Nursing Home for the past six years. She was a lifelong member
of Jetersville Christian Church.
She is survived by her son, Earl, Jr.; her
daughters, Kathleen Austin, Thelma Encinas, Fay Garnett and Anne Barksdale;
13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m.
Friday in the Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery.

Keysville, died Saturday, October 25, 2003.
He was the son of the late Mattle Warren Dean of
Prince Edward County. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church,
Farmville.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie Warren; three
children, Antonio Markkey (Kimberly), Torrey Pierce (Tracey) and Princess W.
Smithson (Carnell, Jr.,) all of Keysville; three grandchildren, Brittney,
Keyana and Donte'; his mother-in-law, Estelle Arvin; five brothers-in-law,
Joe T. Arvin (Delois), Waverly Bedford (Eunice), Ruffus Whitehead
(Patricia), Willie Hicks (Mary) and Noel Baronnette; one aunt, Emma Watson;
one uncle, Roosevelt Barksdale; a devoted friend, Winfred "Joe Boy" West and
a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 30
at 1 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Farmville, with interment in Union
Cemetery, Keysville. The Rev. A. L. Crook officiated.

Geigert, of Dillwyn, died Friday, October 31, 2003 at UVA Hospital.
Born February 8, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, he was preceded in death
by his parents, Ewalt and Florence Geigert and his brothers, Daniel and
Edward.
He is survived by his wife, Karolyn; stepchildren, Danny and Dalyn
Seay and Donna Corros; grandchildren, Danlelle Seay, Jesse and Jason Echols;

OCTOBER 30 - Dorothy Barksdale Andrews, 99, died
Wednesday, October 29, 2003 In Farmville.
She was a native of Roanoke and was the daughter of the late
Alexander Sydnor and Fannie Adams Barksdale. She was the widow of E. Richard
Andrews.
Mrs. Andrews was a life member of Calvary Baptist Church of
Roanoke, taught Children's Sunday School Classes and a member of the WMS and
Angelus Bible Class. She was an avid gardener and holds a life membership
with the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc.
She is survived by her daughter. Dr. Nancy Ann Andrews of Farmville
and 20 nieces.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday m Evergreen Burial Park.

ASHEBORO,
NC, Oct. 28 -Max Dempsey
Morgan, 77, of Asheboro,
NC, died Saturday, October 25, 2003.
Mr. Morgan was a native of Randolph County, a member of First
United Methodist Church and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a
graduate of Asheboro High School, where he was an All Star football player.
After graduating from High Point
University, he taught and coached at
Randleman High School until 1954. In 1960, Mr.
Morgan began teaching and coaching at Asheboro High School where he served
in numerous coaching
positions including head football coach from 1967 until 1974. In 1974 he
became the Athletic Director and retired
in 1988. Coach Morgan was a member of the NC High
School Athletic
Association
and received in 1989 the Region 5 Director of the Year Award.
He is survived by his
wife, Hilda
Brown Morgan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Walter
Jessup of
Fountain, NC and Barbara and Michael Walters of
Fairmont, NC; four
granddaughters, Lindsay
Jessup, Morgan Walters, Mary Page Walters and

-Rosalie Greear Hamlin, 86, of West Point, MS, died Tuesday, October 7,
2003.
She was born August 22, 1917 in St. Paul, a daughter
of the late Clyde Howell Greear and Rosa Belle Garnett. She was the widow
of Wilbur G. Hamlin.
Mrs. Hamlin was an alumni of Longwood College and
had lived in West Point, MS since 1966.
She is survived by two sons, W. Gordon Hamlin and
his wife, Sylvia of Atlanta, GA and Mark Hamlin and his wife, Sally of
Jackson; one daughter, Lynne Tubb and her husband, Murray of West Point; one
brother, Calvin G. Greear and his wife, Jeanne of Gastonia, NC and five
grandchildren.

OCTOBER 23 - Mary Hannah
Jones, 90, of Richmond, formerly of Sheppards, died Tuesday, October
21,2003.
She was born in 1913, a daughter of the late Joseph
L. and Edna Venable Eican Jones. She was preceded in death by a sister,
Pauline Jones Walker and a brother, Marcus Cleveland Jones.
Miss Jones was graduated from Longwood College and
received her Master's Degree in Education from Virginia Polytechnic in
Blacksburg. After retiring as professor of Home Economics at Radford
College, she returned to her home at Sheppards, where she lived until she
moved to the Hermitage Retirement Home in Richmond.
She spent her working career first at Mary
Washington College in Fredericksburg and later at Radford College. While at
Mary Washington, the State Board of Education, in recognition of her work
made her an Honorary Member of the Virginia Future Homemakers.
She is survived by a brother, Joseph L. Jones, Jr.
and his wife, Jeanne J. of Willow Street, PA and nephews and nieces, Mary
Venable Walker Volk, Ann Noel Walker, Marcus Cleveland Jones, Jr., Jane
Elizabeth Jones French, Joseph L. Jones, IV, Carolyn Jones Borris and
Catherine Ann Jones Mercer.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at
Smyrna United Methodist Church, Sheppards, with interment in the church
cemetery.
