Board approves permits

The Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors approved a special use permit at the Feb. 13 board meeting for the operation of an indoor/ outdoor commercial sports recreation center that will be located at 140 Sheppards Road and is owned by Bart Gray.

According to an agenda document, the property is approximately 27 acres and the proposed facility will consist of an approximately 7,000 square foot building that will house two batting cages, a synthetic field space and off street parking.

The facility will be open 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Gray said he anticipated the most cars being at the facility at any given time would be around 20.

Conditions set on the permit include installing a 6-foot fence before operation of the facility begins.

The board also approved a permit for a custom manufacturing operation within an existing building located at 653 Plum Creek Road that was applied for by Abner King. According to an agenda document, the property is approximately 55 acres. King will be custom manufacturing storage sheds and buildings for a third party vendor and will operate within an existing 2,400 square foot building and may employ up to six people.
