The Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Cumberland recently donated supplies and $1,000 to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department transported the items to God’s Pit Crew in Danville, which will send the donations to the proper place.

“We thank God for giving our Church the ability to help, as well as all the members of the congregation who gave and worked so hard,” said the Rev. Larry E. Smith. “We also thank the Cumberland Sheriff’s Department, who serve the County so well, and for supplying the transportation. As a church, we will continue to pray for and help those in need.”

“We are glad to be working with Rocky Mount Church to give to those in need,” said Cumberland County Sheriff Darrell Hodges. “The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department will always be willing to lend aid when possible. The hurricane that hit Texas and Florida was tragic and devastating, but it also shows how this country, and our neighbors, will pull together to help one-another in times of trial. Whenever there is a tragedy in our community, Rev. Smith is always there to lend support and comfort those in need. It is not surprising that when disaster struck, Rev. Smith, and his church, were ready to help.”
