Candidate social set for Saturday

FARMVILLE — An ice cream social will be held from 3-5 p.m. at the caboose at High Bridge Plaza on Main Street in downtown Farmville on Saturday to introduce voters to Prince Edward County School Board candidates.

According to a press release, November will bring the first election for school board members in Prince Edward County for the Prospect, Buffalo, West End and Leigh districts.

“The 2017 school board candidates for these districts are Lucy Carson, Dione Jennings, Elzora Stiff, Dr. Timothy Corbett and Cainan Townsend,” officials said in the release. “All candidates except Mr. Townsend and Ms. Carson have agreed to attend.”

According to the release, each candidate will have an opportunity to speak on their behalf followed by an informal time of conversation over ice cream.

“Everyone is invited to participate in this free event, which is sponsored by the Southside Virginia Tea Party Patriots, a local civic organization whose mission is fostering information and involvement in government at all levels,” officials said in the release.
