FARMVILLE — The second annual Farmville Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at the High Bridge Plaza on North Main Street in downtown Farmville at 6 p.m. Friday. There will be music by the Voices of Unity Choir, along with band performances from local schools. Student winners of a town-sponsored essay contest will assist in helping Farmville Mayor David E. Whitus light the tree. Whitus will read the winning essays, themed “What Christmas Means to Me.” Santa Claus will also be present to greet children and the young-at-heart. The event is free and open to the public.
