The Cumberland Christmas Mother committee has planned several fundraisers and events for the upcoming Christmas season.

The organization partners with the Cumberland Department of Social Services, churches, civic organizations and clubs to bring Christmas to families in the county. There will be several opportunities for individuals and businesses to give to the Christmas Mother program and join in on some fun.

Bear Creek Lake State Park is providing six different days of Christmas light viewing in the park.

In lieu of the park’s standard $4 parking fee, attendees can instead donate a new toy for admission. The special entrance “fee” will be accepted Dec. 9-12 and 16-18 from 5-8 p.m. each day.

On Dec. 11, the Friends of Bear Creek will host a pancake dinner with Santa, beginning at 5 p.m.

For seniors in the community, the organization has arranged a senior luncheon at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 50 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland at 1 p.m. on Dec. 8.

Cumberland Christmas Mother committee members will also attend the Cumberland County Christmas Parade on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Cumberland Court House village.

Those interested in applying to receive gifts through the program can still submit applications through Nov. 16.

Donations and gifts are accepted year round, but donations given after Dec. 9 will go toward 2017 efforts.

Those donating gifts through angel trees must submit them by Dec. 9, as these are specific gifts for designated children. Angels are available at various locations in the community, including C&F Bank in Cartersville, the Cumberland County Public library and Riverside Café.

The gift giveaway will take place 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 13 and 16 at the Community Center in Pod C, Room 6, 71 Community Center Drive in Cumberland.

Angel recipients will receive letters informing them of their appointments.

Physical donations, such as pants, shirts, sweat suits, toys, coloring books and stuffed animals, can be dropped off at Cumberland Department of Social Services, 71 Community Center Drive, Building B.

Mail checks payable to Cumberland Department of Social Services with Cumberland Christmas Mother in the memo line to Cumberland Department of Social Services, P.O. Box 33, Cumberland, VA 23040.
