Chase Grubbs, a junior at Cumberland High School, was recognized at the October meeting of the Cumberland School Board for his attendance at the Virginia Space Coast Scholars (VSCS) this summer. This program was for high school sophomores and focused on the science, engineering and technology integral to current missions at NASA Wallops Flight Facility and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport. The program was for students who were motivated to learn about the many different opportunities that NASA offers.

The program featured two key elements: a dynamic on-line science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning experience that featured five modules, and a seven-day residential Summer Academy at NASA Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island.

Chase had a chance to learn firsthand from NASA professionals and their parents about cutting edge technologies and missions.
